Mandy Moore covers Rihanna's hit song "Umbrella"...Love it or hate it?

I saw that this morning, I really think it's a nice cover but didn't like the Country music played in the background.
 
ok ... I'm not a huge fan Rihanna but her music is strangely catchy.

That being said ..its the music thats catchy and this version just doesn't have the same ring to it...
 
Dont get me wrong I LOVE Rihanna.....BUT....


......WOW I LOVE IT!!!!!!! I love how she slowed it down and made it her own. I wish she could release it and not get picked on about it. Gosh she is so under rated.
 
Hmm... It's actually pretty good. Mandy made it sound like a completely different song. Props to her.
 
i didn't like her commentary at the beginning, "normally i don't listen to top 40 radio, bla bla!" i like mandy, but what the hell was candy? you sing pop songs too!
 
It doesn't have as catchy of a hook, but I do like that she made it her own, especially the 'ella, ella, ella, hey hey hey' bit. A lot of the covers I heard keep Rihanna's Jamaican twist and it sounds weird because they're not singing with the Jamaican accent. So I'm glad Mandy Moore changed the way she sang it. It's not bad.

But no matter what, the 'shiny cars' line still sounds dumb to me.

I personally dont like it, its quite slow, kinda depressing vibe to it and makes it sound like a much older song.
 
Yeah but isn't this too late? Rihanna's Umbrella has already been mixed and remixed to death, it's on like every hour on Sirius "The Beat". If I hear ella ella ella one more time..!! This reminds me of that Caddilac song from Dream Girls that got so called stolen from the Eddie Murphy character. Now if she had done this like Alanis re-did My Humps.. then just maybe...
 
The Alanis re-make of My Humps was done to show people how stupid the lyrics are. This is a quality re-make of the song, and very well done.
 
I like Mandy a lot. Not really a fan of hers but something about her that I always liked. Rihanna can't really sing well live. She needs heavy back-up and loud music. She could never sing a stripped version of this song. Mandy had a sweet voice. But I'm not one for stripped versions of songs.
 
Wow. I really like this version as well. Agree with bluedragon--there is something very likable about her, even if I'm not a big fan. I think she just seems very sincere and genuine, and she has also avoided the kinds of gutter behaviors many of her contemporaries have exhibited.
