I know this thread belongs in the 'music/entertainment', but
I'm savoring the buzz, so please bear with me..... ;)

MY GOD !!

The tickets fell into our laps at the last second, and really, I've never
cared about Mandy Patinkin, but he gave one of the most incredible
concerts I've ever seen in my life...

Just he and his piano player put on the most *incredible* show....90
minutes flew by in seconds.....

From 'The Band Played On' to lots of Sondheim's catalog, ('Send in the Clowns', 'Being Alive'...) THIS was the SHIT ! The room seemed to disappear...

It singlehandedly reminded me what I live for....The joy of great music.

If he comes to your town....

GO.

Anyone else seen him ?

Lost in the moment,

Joshy

I have not had the pleasure... but man! Can he sing.

Glad you had a great time Joshy! :)

Our local PBS affiliate showed Yentl last weekend. Man, he was a cutie in that movie, and he summoned the most incredibly tender look for Yentl in the scene where she told him she was a woman. Melted my heart, and made me yearn for a look like that from him.

*sigh*

Oh ... yah, he can sing too. I've seen him on TV but never in real life. If I ever get the chance, I'll go!

Personal minority opinion - when Patakin first made his big splash in Evita with Patti Lupone (1976) he had a superb voice and an excellent presentation.

If you were to compare that performance with what he did (on dvd) with Sunday in the Park With George there is a vast difference.

He has over the years allowed himself to be taken over by self indulgent mannerisms that draw attention from the material he is singing and or most of the roles he plays.

When an artist becomes that self absorbed in their own persona their ability to deliver material in a truly meaningful way almost becomes an issue of self destruct.

I find it almost impossible to watch him do anything related to theatre or now televison without constantly having the feeling that i am watchin one of the most egocentric "artists?" i have ever seen.

Please feel free to chastise me for the negative words i have spoken, but i think the other side of the coin deserves to be viewed.

just the local village idiot commenting on an aritist he things has gone estray as his career has developed.](*,) ](*,)

I've seen him on stage in two shows. SECRET GARDEN as Archibald... over the top but sang the hell out of it... and FALSETTOS... in a word ba-ril-liant!!!! He was so tender with Whizzer at the end. So he CAN be less self-indulgent but he is a great talent whatever his faults... then I saw him in the DVD of SUNDAY (loved him completely in it) DVD of FOLLIES (hated him in it as Buddy). That's my two cents worth...

We too went to see Mandy because the Rabbi was just enthraled about his performance of Mamaloshen (Yiddish Mother tongue)....

So we went and man, we had NO idea he was so talented and his piano player also was just fantastic....

I've never seen anyone put their "touch" on so many great tunes that you are just mesmerized by it ALL.......

I have NOT thought about him for years; and I did NOT even know he was still doing concerts....

I do enjoy the TV series he's in right now on CBS concerning Criminal Minds....

Thanks for reminding me of his act!(*8*) (*8*)

Saw him in concert about 15 years ago (doing probably many of thr same songs) and I loved it. Also saw him in Evita. He was superb.

I always enjoyed his solo CDs and his work in musical theatre (on CD at least) in Evita and especially Sunday in the Park With George - so I jumped at the chance to see him live in New York a few years back when he was doing a show at Dodger Stages. What a terrible evening I had. I don't know if he was off or I was having a bad night but I just didn't enjoy it. I'll keep listening to his CDs though.

Thanks for that info. In all honesty--- I wouldn't have crossed the street to see him without your recommendation!

Thanks for for the suggestion Josh, I didn't even know he sings. I just know him from Criminal Minds, I fell kinda dumb now#-o .

He also looked great coming naked from the swim

and wow he can sing

What a coincidence....! I taped Sunday in the Park with George when it aired on PBS some years ago and I finally decided to buy the DVD version of it. It arrived in the mail just last week. I've always been an admirer of Bernadette Peters and I think she and Mandy Patinkin worked well together in Sunday in the Park.

As for Evita, I have the album and CD, and love both Patti Lupone and Mandy Patinkin's performances. Listening to that performance of Evita, you can hear the youth and energy of the performers. As for Mandy Patinkin's singing, there's a "rawness" on Evita that's missing on the CDs that's he released over the last few years...

I read somewhere that every show on Broadway is filmed and archived. I wish they would begin releasing some of these historical performances on DVD.

And yes, we all remember his nude scene in Yentl!
