Meet & Greet -- November 21-23 -- DC

The protest was pretty lame. Numbers were so low, it looked more like Trump's inauguration.

I would expect to see more tourists than that milling about on an ordinary day.
I don't think there normally is. The Memorial is the most remote of all the primary ones on the mall. The monument itself is usually busy up top, but not down at the reflecting pool. I was expecting a much larger crowd from the region.

What do you think were the reasons for the poor turnout? People prefer local protests because there's less travelling and expense? It was held too close to Thanksgiving? It's winter and the weather could have been bad? Air traffic control issues during the booking period? Poor publicity? A perception that protesting makes no difference? Trump is less unpopular than claimed? People are just resigned to three more years of him?

^ North Americans are not so good when it comes to persistence like the Europeans are.

And frankly, this was about the worst time to try this because of the reasons above.

I receive lots of notices on Facebook of anti-Trump groups, and this one was odd. For one, it was cagey about the where, as if it was a security issue. Unless you signed up to go, it was not published. They first said they'd be at Columbus Circle (in front of Union Station in DC). Later, they annoounced it would be at the Lincoln Memorial.
It was also no the No Kings folks. The few tents of organizers set up on Columbus CIrcle were more hardcore and somewhat sketchy. One tent had a big "Fuck Trump" sign just inside it. That doesn't appeal to everyone.

They also cited some bands that would play, or pop groups, or rock, or whatever they are. That didn't seem to be any kind of draw at all. Again, if they were anything, there would certainly be more than two or three thousand fans.

I think it was a convergence of bad planning (near Thanksgiving), bad timing (reservations would have to be made during the shutdown when flights were being cancelled, the forecast (it rained, but not significantly during the rally, but the hours before), and most of all bad promoting.

Commenters on the pics of it on FB were unhappy that they had not heard of it. That tells you a lot. They even speculated that the big social media moguls were suppressing it. Hardly. My home page is flooded with political crap, even after I've blocked dozens of them.

So, I'm booked to attend the "Remove the Regime" protest at DC on Nov. 22, from noon to 4:00 p.m..

But, I'm proposing a Meet & Greet in DC any time from Thursday evening to Sunday. You don't have to attend the protest, but you're welcome.

I've been to DC maybe four or five times. I enjoy the museums, some good restaurants, cool bookstores, and generally peoplewatching on DuPont Circle on on mass transportation.

Not presuming to call it a JUB Meet, but would be happy to see anyone who'd like to meet for coffee, touring, talk, walk, protest, or shopping.

Any takers?
I feel like y'all gonna get disappeared by the regime.

Trust me, they don't want me coming back as the Undead.

Although I confess I did have the Carpathian Cheesecake at the snack bar in Terminal E at Reagan yesterday before "flying":

Thankfully, I didn't have to worry about the ginger ale going flat, since it came to the table that way already.
