Billy Bob Thornton will star as Freddy Krueger in a new Nightmare On Elm Street movie.

The 53-year-old actor will take on the chilling role in a remake of the 1984 original.

Robert Englund, who played the part in eight films, revealed that Thornton will star in the horror films and is an "excellent choice" for the role.

He adds, "A big budget should mean the film will look a lot better than some of the old movies."

Man I dislike him. A big budget and the fact its not 1992 should mean this film "looks" better then the old films.

But why re cast if the were going with an older actor? Englund is much of the freddy films appeal.

edit
I just read its a flat out remake. Shit, why bother I was so happy with a prequal :(.

Billy Bob Thornton is one of the creepiest fuckers in Hollywood. seriously...he makes my skin crawl!!! with that said, i can kinda see him in the role. this whole remake business is so TIRED though!!! i AM somewhat looking forward to the F-13th remake. i wouldn't pay to watch it, but i'll watch. if for no other reason than to see how much skin Jared Padelecki's gonna show.

as far as remakes go though i have to admit...i do prefer TCM '03 to the original. the original i think, is one of the most overrated movies EVER!!! i like the Hills' remake better also.

What the hell? This movie was a bad idea to begin with. Now this? What the hell?

What's with all these remakes? So many have bombed horribly at the box office. Do they really think it's worth it or are they just too damned lazy to think up something new?

and supposedly they're working on remakes for Child's Play & Children of the Corn.....

Cause the guy who is producing them made money off of previous remakes, both of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remakes made money, the first remake made 70 million over budget and the second one made around 30 million over budget. People keep seeing these movies, they'll keep being made.

Plus the remake of 'Halloween' broke budget by around 40 mill. The bigger name horror movies usually make the money and F13 is one of them, so I am sure it will make money as well.

oh it'll more than likely bring in big bucks. much as people(myself included) bitch about them, the majority still end up watching them. if for no other reason than to see if it's as bad as they're expecting. i really doubt that'd i'd go out and watch it though...i'll just wait for bootleg or netflix.

omg, nothing can ever compare to the original Nihtmare on elm st., Nothing!!

although i think billy bob is an ecellent choice to play freddy....but no on can play freddy like robert englund can!!

none of the remakes have bombed at the box office. i think the House of Wax did the worst. but, no, they were all hits. TCM, Halloween, The Fog, The Hills Have Eyes, the Amityville Horror. no bombs.

well. you know. they are in a different league. did War of the Worlds tank? I was under the impression it did quite well. i don't know.

King Kong and Godzilla were tanks.

as long as they are not PG13 we are gonna be fine.

Friday looks great. They are also making Suspiria with Natalie Portman rumored to be in the leading role.

I agree.

This is gonna just be a slasher flick with the blood and guts pumped up to appeal to the violence hungry moving viewing populace.
