Not sure if this movie has been mentioned here or not, but it is just out on dvd...and is another example of why Mel Gibson should spend the rest of his life making movies (as a director) and cease acting in them...he has an extraordinary eye for detail - and each of his movies is stunning...this one no exception.

Quite violent, beautiful sets and costumes, wonderfully expressive actors (scantily clad men), and a perfect ending for this viewer...I was entranced from first frame until the last...bravo Mel you crazy bastard!

Yes, Apocalypto was a fine movie. Be sure to watch the DVD bonus features. Mel Gibson takes you through the movie, almost frame by frame introducing the cast, which included Cree Indians from Canada, well known Mexican actors, and local townspeople from the state of Veracruz.

I couldn't enjoy it. I kept waiting for something else to gross me out and that was too distracting. Although the scene where they were sacrificing the men at the top of the pyramid was quite well done, almost other-worldly.

I loved this movie! It was amazing. Lunacy aside, Mel is an excellent movie maker.

I think Mel G is an excellent direc tor, but I almost walked out of this movie during the first half. I'd had enough with the physical, emotional and gratuitious violence. It was not involving, it was a pathetic misjudgement on his part, IMHO. But I loved the second half, I loved how that sick young girl predicted their downfall (first half of movie) and the Mayan City was freaking fantastic.
Haven't seen Passion, doubt if I ever will.
Braveheart is one of my favorite movies ever.

Re: Mel Gibson's Apocalypto

Personally speaking of course..I think the movie was good, although it lacked actual historical facts, but it is what it is. Nonetheless it was Hollywood at it's best. Highly recommended DVD rental, or purchase if you wanna spend Twenty-Two bucks like I did, which is totally expensive for any DVD. The movie was beautifully shot w/ a lot of CG, especially during the Mayan Tempe sacrifice scenes. I'm sure it opened many people's mind regarding the Mayan civilization, and how different it was in comparision to the overly written about Egyptian, Greek or Roman civilization.

A movie of this grandeur has not been made, ever; one only hopes there will be more to capture the truely lost civilization of our human race that is the Central Aztec, Mayan, Olmec and South American Inca cultures.

I'm a history minor here at Arizona State Uni, sorry for the boring talk lol. I just thought the movie could have been slightly more acurate, and elaborate about this mysterious civilization.

;)

I've been looking forward to it. Thanks for all the positive reviews! Can't wait to see it.

I really enjoyed the movie - you felt like you were back in Mayan times. I thought the movie was fairly accurate as well except for the ending. The crash of the Mayan civilization occurred around 900 AD while the final scene could only have taken place around 1500 AD.

I haven't seen this movie, but my Dad has seen it last night he says it's a very good movie.

will check this out then, rent it from Blockbuster of Hollywood possibly
