the other night after my football league game, I went to gym bar to meet up with other league members - every week a different bar hosts after game festivities

my turn to get a round found me at the bar ordering ....... and i met a guy - dylan - he touched me on the shoulder and typed into his iphone in big letters "you're really cute I'm Dylan" and showed it to me

i smiled at him - he had a big ear to ear grin - handsome - i told him my name and asked him how we was doing

he typed on his iphone - i'm deaf - i don't know sign so i did the typical stupid thing - i talked slower and louder :) i told him i would be right back - brought drinks to my friends told them about my meeting and said ttyl

i spent the rest of the evening with dylan - 4 bars and a house party later

two bars had paper and pen for us - we communicated almost exclusively in writing - his iphone and paper - between bars i randomly ran into a group of guys from the team that had beaten us earlier in the evening - they invited us in - so dylan got to meet more guys - who were all super nice to him - he couldn't believe his good fortune - first time to nyc - from sacramento area - going to school in Wash DC - here he was experiencing a gay old time in the gayest city and surrounded by attractive and nice gay men

he and i hit it off - chatting (writing), dancing, lots of touching

he stayed over at my place - i drove him back to his conference in brooklyn the next morning and said goodbye - we've texted since - it's his birthday today

if you'd have told me that i was going to meet a deaf man - that i would hang with him all night - that we barely spoke a work to each other in a traditional sense - and that two days after i'd be thinking about him - i'd say you were crazy

i have no experience with this kind of thing - i just know how i feel

i'm such a big fan of his - he's so brave - he was out in NYC by himself - at a bar - without the ability to speak - crazy

my plan is to visit him in DC in a few weekends

such a cool guy and so glad i met him

life is funny

Awww...AWESOME! You are very kind to open up your heart to him. ..|

Love reading your experience too. Thanks for sharing!

sounds like an interesting fun sweet experience---may be time to sign up for a sign language class.

That was a great read. Life can be and often is grand. At least, that's been my experience. Thanks for sharing this. The DC-NYC commute is not too bad. Have a fun time there.

Sounds familiar. I had that same experience. i was in San Jose for a work assignment and went to some gay bar I had never been to. Saw a really good looking guy and tried to start up a conversation but no response so I just chalked it up to no interest on his part. No harm no foul. A few minutes later he taps on my shoulder and hands me a note, introducing himself. His name was Mike. And just like Dylan, he's deaf and, like Dylan, was in town just for the day and had never been in that bar. We had a great time 'talking' and dancing and he came back to my hotel with me. Before he left I gave him my phone number and address. I drove back home the next day to Sacamento (sound familiar?) and got home a little after 5p. A few minutes later there was a knock at the door. It was Mike. I was very pleasantly surprised. We had a great weekend (communication was not a problem. Like you said, just about everything was in writing). Here is another coincidence. You mentioned Dylan is going to school in Washington, DC. Probably Gallaudet. Mike went there too. After school he moved to California. When we met he was living in SF and soon we started spending weekends at each other's apartments. That was 30 years ago and we're still together. Now we live on a farm in N. California with 6 dogs, 3 horses and a donkey. Life is good.

ps...it was also my first experience with the deaf community. And one more coincidence. Mike is also very brave. Never one to back down and always willing to take chances and they usually pay off. It must be a deaf thing.

That sounds really sweet and great to hear :)
Back in hs there is a few class specifically for the deaf and mute people. I joined the club activity and a few guys in there are really cute. We communicate mostly through writing since I am really bad at learning and it takes me forever to learn even the easiest sign language lol.

Dylan sounds like someone worth getting to know and you will be surprised how quickly you can learn to communicate by signing.
Thanks for sharing, Chance.

That is awesome! Good luck with whatever happens...

This story is making me teary eyed. I'm glad this is working out for you. By the way, what bar in NYC were you at? I ask because I traveled there in August 2012 and then again this past January, and unlike San Francisco, it seemed like the gay district was spread out. I couldn't find many gay bars - the only one I found was in the Chelsea near Stonewall - I don't remember the name but I know if you take all your clothes off and only wear your underwear, you get drinks for $1.00. lol.

To all who responded ..... thanks :)

it's been a couple days - we've texted - shared FB posts - very good vibe

to fancydancer above - just realized this is your virgin post :) LOVE IT - yes, it is Gallaudet - your experience and mine is so eerily similar (in a good way) - so happy that your meeting has evolved into something so wonderful

to jayamsterdam
we hit gym bar, barrage (love that place), house party, bartini then sugarland
yes NYC gay bars are spread out - but chelsea and hells kitchen is where most are so u can hunker down in either and ur good
the place you're talking about - the underwear party is Pieces - very hit and miss in terms of what's in the underwear ;)

thanks boys for the kind words

keep you posted
