Michael J. Fox was presented an honorary Oscar last Saturday for his decades of advocacy work with Parkinson`s disease.
I think he deseves it, has always been one of my heroes.

Yes he definitely deserves some recognition.

My mom got this horrible disease at 45 which was young but poor michael got it in his late 20s - can’t imagine what he went thru.

LIfe can be so bittersweet. My next door neighbor back home has had Parkinson's for all my lifetime, and he has a son a year younger than me. She isn't nearly as debilitated as Fox.

I'm glad he's had a rich life in spite of his disability. God bless him.

Apart from anything else he has to be applauded for not fading into the background when he could no longer be the 'perfect' film star.
His fundraising is unbelievable

He did sime interesting movies, but my late boyfriend, educated as a theatre and opera director, said that like Jodie Foster his roles never quite 'worked'.

This role sure worked for Michael and made him a legend...

That's a curious assessment of an actor whose name sold blockbuster movies and made his studios an incredible amount of profit BECAUSE many millions loved his characters. The Back to the Future trilogy alone gross $961M, almost ten times the cost of making them ($99M).

Teen Wolf cost about $1M to make and grossed $80M.

The Secret of my Success cost $12M and grossed $111M.

So, just on his blockbuster roles where he had top billing, he earned his masters over $1.2B.

Is he Shakespearean or an immortal dramatic actor? Likely not. But, his popular roles embodied a well-loved trope, typically of a handsome, cocky, plucky, flawed young hero. He carried that image over into a few popular TV roles, and many voiceovers for animation.

He's been one of the most popular actors of his generation.

It's a shame your ex didn't like him, but from all the evidence, he was in a small minority. No actor appeals to everyone.
