Funny how when something good happens to Apple the posts are as thick as flies on horse shit. But let Microsoft have even the smallest bit of success, and you can hear the crickets chirp from a mile away!

I love Vista, Office 2007 and my XBox 360.....way to go MS!!!!

I love Microsoft, and the silence is the Mac fanboys unable to come up with a good jab agaisnt Microsoft.

Go Microsoft!

WOW, that's huge increase. I'm a little surprised, but maybe Xbox is carrying that...or maybe Vista is doing better than I thought. It's great for the company.

Sorry boys, but I don't get this. This profit report seems like very bad news to me.

If Microsoft makes more profit in one quarter ($5 billion) than the annual total budget of many small countries, doesn't that mean we're getting raped? Doesn't that mean that $400 is too much to charge for Windows?

I thought the reason everyone cheers when Apple makes money but boos when Microsoft does the same is that Apple competes for business, whereas Microsoft is a monopoly.

what it means is that they can put more into development of the next version of windows more money for games on the 360 better office software quicker bug fixes more features
better zunes maybe even a surface tablet pc running an origami like interface

No, it means they are selling more than they did last year. And you forget, Microsoft dips into a lot of different stuff.

This is just you being very paranoid about nothing.

At least somebody gets it!

In other words, it's a good thing to get raped.

It isn't paranoia if we really are getting raped!

Having 80% of the OS market is why they beat the crap out of Apple dollar for dollar. As for as having a monopoly, I think most everyone has the option to buy Apple when shopping for a new computer.

Your argument is that competition increases prices?

And actually, it's 91.8%.

And Apple is not a "choice", since you're forced to buy their hardware. In fact, if you eliminate Apple from the equation on the basis of exclusivity of hardware, MS has >99.99% of the market!

Your completely wrong on all fronts.

You don't have to buy a PC. There is this thing called, ummm Apple? And now Dell and other companies are making Linux machines. So if you hate Microsoft (like you obviously do) then get one of the alternatives.

You don't have to buy a Xbox 360, you'll just be uncool if you buy the other ones (except the Wii).

actually jannus vista brought windows to a much higher level than each of the mac upgrades to osx which each cost $129 so over the time you would have paid $129 x 5 which is $649 which is considerably more than the $179 i paid for vista which was a comparable upgrade of 10.0 to 10.5

dont worry chicken little the sky is not falling and if microsoft is raping us wtf is apple doing?

I think the increase is to do with all those people going out and buying a computer with Vista on and then buying a copy of XP to upgrade Vista. Very clever of Microsoft actually.

How's that?

I you consider xp at $299 and vista at $399. you get $698. From Feb. 2000 to Nov. 2007 Apple has made 6 versions @ $129. Assuming you upgraded to every other one you would have paid $390. if you are still using a Mac prior to 2000. I know of one person that is using one that old and he is using 10.3 on it. In addition, many new features came with each upgrade and offered the user a more secure and user friendly OS. Please note that every copy of OSX is a full version, not a stripped down version. Also interesting to note is with OSX each new version runs faster than the one it replaced, not slower.

Ummm ok and Windows does the same. Besides the slower Vista (because it requires a lot of processing power) everything you just said, Microsoft also does. Except the pricing as well too I guess.

Vista came out with tons more features AND is more secure. One thing no one debates, is that it is more secure than XP. The stripped down version of Vista is Vista basic, and no one has to buy it.

It was the same for XP, and the same for 98. There were some inbetween that were complete pieces of shit, but hey, we knew it and Microsoft fixed it. I really don't see the point of your post? You are trying to make a point, but you arnt.

Macfanboy: "Ohhh Apple does it this way!"

Intelligent person: "Ummm so does Microsoft dude. Despite certain roadbumps. They pretty much do the same thing"

MFB: "Well you just proved my point!!! Mac doesn't hit road bumps!!!"

IP: "Ummm, well wern't there some major problems with leopard that was pissing people off?"

MFB:"...Shut Up! Mac is still better"

*end* he never proved his point.

I find Windows more user friendly than OS X to tell the truth. You have to go through too many extra steps to do simple things, and I really just dislike the experience I have had on all Mac machines I have picked up.

My lab just got two new Mac's and I set them up, turned them on, and found nothing new or special. The last Mac I used had only 256MB RAM so it was obviously slow. And the other was older and had compatability problems. These two new Mac's are running the previous version and it isn't horrible, but I don't see much difference besides it is faster. Sooooo what is so great about Mac again?

I mean you can spout off the upgrades of OS X over the years, but Microsoft does the exact same thing, just in a different fashion.

The adjusted results paint a much different picture. The adjusted revenue increase of 15% compares unfavorably to Apples 35% and earnings per share of 32% pales by comparison to Apples 55% increase. I won't even go to the increase in share price over the year except to say MSFT was basically flat.
One area where they are similar is cash on hand with MSFT at 18.88 billion and AAPL at 18.40 billion USD

Microsofts stock is always flat. The company is greatly underapreciated. Then again, they still own most of the market and makes tons more than Apple ever sees.
