Microsoft patents sudo system used in Mac OS X, Linux?

Well you or me dont really give a damn do we ? So why dont you direct us to somewhere where we can can really waste our time

mac domain? You should know that mac os is unix based and therefore the "sudo" from the "mac domain" is the unix sudo ...

Oh, corny but I do. Thanks for pointing it out. I assumed when Linux was included in the batch you would have realised that. Now to go block wirega56...

nope, you labeled it as public AND mac domain.
it's just public or if you want to unix domain.

if you are doing all the but apple this and mac pointed remarks, you have to expect to be called out when you get it wrong ;)

I don't think I understand your answer. Please re-read the title of the thread which includes Linux. I understand the huge amount of work entailed in being a mod and can see it would be easy to miss with the amount of postings you need to read. However we should keep this thread ad hoc.

If I made a mistake it was assuming Linux is a 'nix OS whereas it is like a unix OS. Apple has heavily advertised OSX's unix BSD underpinnings (running on the Carnegie Mellon Mach kernel). To clarify the sudo command is used in unix and linux. If you are running a Mac and attempting for instance a new system install the system will ask for your password and elevate your status to superuser from administrator to allow the install to take place. In the terminal using sudo can get you into trouble if you don't know what you are doing.

Am I to understand that it is against JUB policy to post *watchdog* threads about any tech company including Microsoft? I ask because I have one about Verizon that their USA customers might want to know about.

What has any of this to do with JUB policies? Or me being a mod? It's just me being tired of the "superior-no-matter-what" attitude of the mac fanbois ;)

Maybe you see a different meaning in "domain"?

From M-W:
1 a : complete and absolute ownership of land — compare eminent domain b : land so owned
2 : a territory over which dominion is exercised
3 : a region distinctively marked by some physical feature <the domain of rushing streams, tall trees, and lakes>

Maybe you mean it as "knows the command"?
As you now said yourself - the command/techinque originates from unix. And now is "public domain" (as in #1).

No ownership, or distinctiveness to claim here for apple.

sheep i don't think corny was implying that you couldn't' discuss this here. i think he was just pointing out something he thought you got wrong. i don't think it has anything to do with Jub or what you can post. Just difference in perspective on the subject. Lets all shake hands and head to opposite corners. ;)
