I befriended a HOT Saudi Arabian 15 years ago in college ... not surprising, his name was actually Mohammed, but he went by Moe to be more "American." I used to work in Saudi and can confirm that prison was certainly something to be avoided. I was told that the authorities don't even provide meals so the only way that the prisoners eat is if a visitor brings in food

Their attitude to homosexuality is to my view bizarre. A man is allowed four wives under Islam and men from richer, more influential families will often have more than one wife. This results in a number of unattached men who have no prospect of ever marrying. Naturally they turn to other men even though it is illegal

While I was in Saudi I found I was the subject of a lot more interest than has ever been the case in the UK, obvious leering, ribald comments and the occasional grope. It was hard to believe that it was illegal. My experience wasn't exceptional either because soon after I arrived a colleague told me what was likely to happen and warned me not to complain about it
