Mike Douglas's throat cancer from orals sex.

Of course there is a risk of disease from oral sex , as for the HPV being the cause of some Cancers , this has already been established .

Though i have never come across someone with cancer of the "throat" or "mouth" , that my Consultant prescribes to HPV .
A really interesting article , now i need to ask someone in Oncology about this , thanks for the heads-up .

Update .
HPV has over 100 different strains , high-risk types include 16 and 18 .
Most Genital Warts are caused by HPV types 6 and 11 , these are classed as "low-risk" which means they do not represent a "significant" Cancer Risk .

High-Risk types like 16 and 18 have been known to cause Cervical Cancer .
High-Risk HPV has been linked to Cancers of the Penis , Vagina , Vulva and Anus as well as Throat and Mouth .

Here in Scotland we have a vaccination program in place that hopes to vaccinate girls between the ages of 12 upwards , this has proven to be effective "especially" if it is a young girl who has multiple sexual partners .

A few years ago, researchers started looking at the demographics of head and neck cancers. They realized that the cancers were occurring in younger patients, were increasing in women and- significantly, were occurring in people who did not smoke.

Genetic testing on these cancers found the presence of HPV DNA in over 50% of these tumors.

It seems kinda unfair that some countries are vaccinating all the girls while the boys are not.

I agree , though the vaccine has proven more effective when it is given at a younger age , The Scottish Government are rolling it out to include "lads" as well .

HPV vaccines have been over-hyped in initial PR campaigns it seems. Their long term effectiveness range lasts only 5 years! Mot doctors don't even tell you that there is a 2 to 3 shots needed to maintain the full effectiveness for about 5 years. And even then, the 2 approved vaccines don't maintain high antibodies for all the strains they claim to protect from. So at the end of the day, cost v. benefit may not justify this vaccine for men for whom HPV immunization is less effective than in women.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/marcia-g-yerman/an-interview-with-dr-dian_b_405472.html This Dr. is world expert on HPV. She had her son vaccinated with Gardisil. After 2 years she said he had very low titers for the vaccine to have any value. For such an expensive vaccine that requires several shots, it should work for at least 15 years.

My son is 13. I had him vaccinated last year at his pediatrician's recommendation. She has been his and his brother's doctor since they were born and is also a professor at University of Connecticut, School of Medicine so I have complete faith in her judgment. The Centers for Disease Control has several pages of HPV vaccine on their website, http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vpd-vac/hpv/.
