Well. It's finally here. Today is the day that MMS is out for iPhone. I upgraded to 3.1 and it works. Sorta. Very slow and sometimes fails to send.

Here are some instructions but it's very easy to do.

And guess what. These are all the lovely people responding to AT&T's facebook page with wonderful and pleasant comments about how much they appreciate MMS.

I swear to god AT&T needs to fucking get it together.

We never had MMS from the start, their servers cannot handle it, and now it's barely working or the red !.

Fuck you AT&T

Was MMS not available only for the iPhone or just not available through the AT&T network. I don't understand how MMS wasn't available on a phone like the iPhone.

Yes, to clarify, MMS has been available on the iPhone since software version 3 was released in June. (Why it wasn't available in version 1.0 is anyone's guess!) I've been using MMS here in Australia since the day it was released.

This thread relates to AT&T implementing it in their network, which is not related to Apple.

Based on the fact that even 3.0 1st gen iPhones can't have it still, I'd wager there's a hardware limitation. (likely because they never planned for it in the first place)

I downloaded it, but no one said anything about restarting the phone afterward so I freaked out a bit when nothing changed. Its been working all day for me, albeit slowly. I guess it just depends how busy your local network is.

I still don't understand the use for an obsolete technology like MMS.

For short comments there's SMS, for novels there's e-mail on cell phones too.

Right I should have mentioned it's not available for USA.

Teethering and MMS has been available outside of the USA.

So some got it during 3.0. But for those in the USA we had to wait until yesterday to finally get it. I tried to send a picture to my sister but it diddn't work. Also, something odd about updating to 3.1 made my AT&T logo dissapear. I am NOT complaining though. That's better :D

Unfortuantely Atlanta's network fucked up when 3GS first came out and it barely worked and would drop calls and die because everyone in Atlanta using it. 2 years later it's finally working. Now it's gonna take a while with everyone using MMS T_T"

Woa what? Before that there was no MMS on the iPhone? modern phone .. huh :) ?

I suspect it was some kind of arrogant belief on Apple's part that, with email, MMS wasn't required. Apparently they forgot that the other billion mobile phones on Earth weren't using email.
