I have quite a few moles around my neck and they REALLY annoy me, not to mention I hate they look and it hurts my self confidence knowing they are there. A few years ago I went to the doctor and she removed a few that were in other locations but alls she did was give me a shot to numb the pain and then cut them off... After a while I found out that it was easier to just cut them off because I hate needles and it wasn't that painful... I could do that at home! My question is should I just cut them off with scissors? How would I make sure that it doesn't get infected, I can take the pain but I'm just really worried about infections and going back to the doctor doesn't seem worth it to me because well, it wasn't exactly cheap. They aren't very big at all but you can definitely see them and it bugs the hell out of me.

Sorry for the long story but I tend to rant if you've seen my other posts lol... Anyways just looking for some advice about how to safely remove these damn things, I'm really tired of them :grrr:. Thanks in advance :D.

Just go to the doctor bud and pay the price for beauty and safety. Doctors are trained to do the job professionally. Dont stuff around trying to fiddle with things you actually know very little about. [-X

Just my humble opinion on the matter.

It depends on what you mean by "moles".

Some people have a tendency to get what are called cutaneous "skin tags". They occur often on the areas of the skin that fold- like the neck, the underarm, the inside of the knee/elbow...

If you are getting them in the same area repeatedly, then you may want to have them cauterized or "frozen" off by a dermatologist. The cautery or "freezing" will usually prevent them from coming back.

If they don't recur and they are raised from the surface and they are the same color as your skin, then you can remove them with surgical scissors. Just clean the skin well with soap and water. Clean the scissors with an alcohol prep pad.

Unless the tag is unusually large, it is not necessary to inject the area. You can use an ice cube or a numbing spray like BioFreeze to numb the area before you clean it.

If it is a mole- which is usually a flat or slightly raised area that is lighter or darker than your normal skin color- you should have these removed by your doctor.

If you're talking about what I think you are they are called "Skin Tags". They are common for larger people and those that wear tight clothes.

If you want to remove them pain free tie a string around them and keep the string tight for a few days. Once the string cuts through the little thing that lets blood into it, it will trun black and fall off or you can pull it off.

It works well.

Thanks guys, from your descriptions I believe they are indeed "skin tags". Not exactly what I was hoping for but I guess I'll see a dermatologist about it. Thanks again!

I have a few on my neck, 3 in total. Talked to my dermathologist and he said he can freeze them next time i see him , forgot how much he said it would be but no more than $40.

Sweet, thats good news I guess. Thank you!

I had some skin tags...got a nice pair of new toe nail clippers and soaked them in rubbing alcohol and clipped them off myself...kinda stung a wee but but it saved a trip to see the doctor.

That is very tempting because I would LOVE to save the money... I'll have to think about it, thanks ;).

I can take pain, I'm just worried about the infections is all :).

Try what I said in my first post. I have removed al most all of mine and never had a problem besides a bit of pain and one time the string didn't cut through all the was so I had to untie the string. A few days later it feel off.

Other than that keep it clean.
