Okay, so, this is an idea I've toyed around with for a while now, and I recently sat down and tried following it.
This story that is about to start is 100% fiction. The idea is that each chapter of the story will contain a series of clues, pointing to a certain movie, television show or book. It is then up to you, the readers, to try and find these clues, and guess the movie/TV show/book in question. It's not as complicated as it sounds, but this first chapter is meant as a test, to just kinda try and exemplify how it works, and see whether you like it or not.
This first story is probably just about 5 chapters, and each chapter will have a new subject for you to guess. The chapters are going to be pretty short at first, so I can crank them out pretty regularly, but they may become longer if/when a second story rolls around.
Note that not everything is to be taken as a hint. For example, a street named Best Avenue is mentioned at the beginning of this chapter. That is not a hint. The other street, however, might be. So yeah, we'll see how it goes.
Anyway, Chapter 1 is pretty loaded with hints, some subtle, some not so subtle. It should be pretty easy to guess, but later chapters will probably be a bit more difficult.
Hope you like it, understood the premise, and wanna play along. Feedback and suggestions are always welcome

Chapter 1
------------------------
On the corner of Foreman Street and Best Avenue lies a pretty big electronics store, with several stories filled to the brim with CDs, DVDs, games, televisions and so on. As an avid collector of DVDs, I quite often visit the store, sometimes with friends, sometimes alone. It usually has some pretty good bargains on both movies and television series, and I very rarely leave without buying anything. It was during one of these visits I first laid my eyes on David.
David was… Well, is, a twenty-something guy that immediately caught my eye. During this particularly rainy day, me and a couple of friends had sought shelter in the store, and were looking at some DVDs, as per usual. I quickly lost sight of all the DVDs in front of me though, and my friend Lisa quickly noticed the faraway look in my eyes.
“What… Or rather, who, are you looking at?” she asked me, making me snap out of my daze.
“Oh, uh, sorry, drifted off for a bit there. “ I said, trying to save the situation. “Yeah, right. That blonde guy over there?” - “Crap” I thought.
Apparently she knew him, or at least, knew someone who knew him. I didn’t really catch much of what she was saying, but I did hear that he was single, at least as far as she knew. She didn’t know if he was gay or not though.
Time passed, and I saw him several times afterwards. I’m not really the kinda guy who walks up to another guy and asks if he wants to go get a cup of coffee. Or tea. Or anything, really. Besides, whenever I saw him, either he was with his friends, or I was with mine. Lisa, of course, wanted me to go talk to him, but I always chickened out. We had eye contact a couple of times, which usually resulted in me looking the other way, then leaving 5 minutes later.
But one day, another day of heavy rain, I was just about to leave the store alone, when I suddenly noticed him by the bargain bins, looking through some heavily reduced DVDs. And his friends didn’t seem to be around this time. As I stood frozen, a man poked me with his cane to make me move out of the way, muttering quietly as he passed by. I thought I’d have to move quick if I were to try and talk to him. I moved closer, standing behind him, looking at a rack of music DVDs. Id wait for him to look at something I could drop some casual line about, and then hopefully we’d start talking from that.
I picked up some Amy Winehouse DVD and feigned interest as he sorted through the boxes in the bin, looking for that hidden gold you sometimes find in a bin like this. I took a deep breath as he picked something out of the bin. “2 Fast 2 Furious”. “Crap. He might be straight” - I thought, disappointed by the cover in his hands. – “Unless… Unless he’s just into Paul Walker…”
He snickered a bit, and threw the DVD back in the bin. Next he pulled out some movie with Mandy Moore.
“Oh come on, give me something to work with here!”
Thankfully, that didn’t seem to pique his interest either, and he dug a bit deeper before finally fishing out “The Rules of Attraction”. “Finally! That I can do.”
I put the Amy Winehouse DVD back on the rack, took a deep breath and walked over to the bin, positioning myself on the other side of the bin, looking down at the DVDs in the bin.
“The book’s better” I said. Or whispered, I’m not really sure.
He looked up and smiled. “Yeah, I know, I just heard James Van Der Beek kisses a guy in this.” he said with a smile on his face. I’m not sure if my face reacted, but my heart sure as hell did. I guess that answered the biggest question I had about the guy, though I wasn’t sure how exactly to react to it.
“Well, Ian Somerhalder is more my taste, to be honest” I managed to say, and looked up from the copy of “Flight of The Phoenix” in my hand.
“Hi. I’m David” He said with a smile, as he extended his hand.
“I’m Hugh.”
“Have we met before? You seem familiar?”
“Uh, no. You probably just saw me here. I’m a bit of a DVD collector. Or, geek, rather”
“Ah, cool. Me too. So, whaddaya think? “The Rules of Attraction” or “2 Fast 2 Furious?” he asked, laughing.
“Oh definitely “The Rules of Attraction, unless you’re a fan of complete drivel. I mean, it’s not even involuntarily funny.”
“Ooh, harsh. Aw, come on, it does have its redeeming qualities” he said, pointing to Paul Walker on the cover.
“Wow, I think that’s the first time Paul Walker has been mentioned as a positive.”
“I do tend to look on the bright side” he said, laughing at my pretty stupid joke.
Unsure how to proceed, I put down “Flight of The Phoenix”, and flipped through a few more DVDs, silently.
