My school's GLBSU is going to host a movie night but we haven't decided on a movie so I wanted a few suggestions. We want something upbeat(not depressing), fairly recent, and something that straight people can enjoy. It also doesn't necessary have to be a gay exclusively gay themed movie, just something that does have gay characters and is fairly positive.

A dirty shame (directed by John Waters ... stars Tracey Ullman + Johnny Knowville) is hilarious and does have a positive message... although there is quite a bit of nudity

Hairspray? lol that's the most recent thing that comes to my mind.

I always liked 'Wet, Hot, American Summer." It's hilarious and has Michael Ian Black and the sexy Bradley Cooper playing a gay couple. Or you could watch Gregg Araki's 'The Doom Generation' with Rose McGowan and Jonathan Schaech. It ends on a bit of a sour note, but I wouldn't call it depressing per se. 'Running with Scissors' is pretty good as well.

A couple of really good movies are 'The Dreamers' starring Michael Pitt, Louis Garrel and Eva Green, and 'Y Tu Mama Tambien' with Gael Garcia Bernal, Diego Luna, and Maribel Verdu.

"Rendition" is a great film.. and very artistically done... not to mention EXTREMELY relevant in todays confusing political atmosphere.

Not many other good films of that caliber unfortunately...

mmmm maybe, c.r.a.z.y, trainpoitting, almost famous, death proof, sin city, hedwig and te angry inch, caché,

there's a gay themed movie with colin farell in it... (sissy spacek is GREAT in it) ... that is very heart warming ... i think its called "a home at the end of the world" or something close to that

actually it is heartwarming... but as i recall it may be very sad too... oops
