i didn't like that movie.
There is nothing i don't know from that movie and i think its a sadistic movie.

Didn't enjoy this movie in the slightest. The whole thing is just an appeal to your emotions. Look how much Christ suffered for your sins! Isn't it amazing? Doesn't it just make you want to kneel down and worship him? I found it pretty dull honestly... how long can you really watch someone get beat to a pulp before you just zone out? I know, I know, I'm a heathen.

a family member pushed me to watch the movie when it 1st release but i didn't watch.

At the end i watched abit on dvd, after afew skips thro the movie i pressed stop and had enough of meaningless pain on my TV screen.

This was a movie I was just drawn into. I'm not a very religious person anymore, but this movie captivated me.

did you know much about the bible? if you do, nothing is new in that movie accept torture scenes.

I found this movie illustrative of an extremely hypocritical position in Christianity. All of the churches went all out for this movie. I mean all out. Mentioning it in the services, advertisements in the bulletins and church communications, outreach programs. The idea was to get as many "unbelievers" as possible to see it. I witnessed all this in my community.

Now given the fact that the church always rails against "violence in the media" and especially in movies, I found this utterly ridiculous considering that this is without a doubt the most disturbingly violent movie I have ever seen.

So now whenever I see a Christian blabbering on about how "violent media is destroying our culture" I just mention this movie (which they will almost invariably have supported) and then politely tell them to shut their face.

As for the scenes of violence and sadism, they no more bothered me than those in a horror movie would. Not being a "believer" in the stories of the bible as anything other than that: stories, it was not a representation of something that historically occurred, but rather of the suffering of a mythological figure.
While I certainly don't agree that Jesus is God, most scholars agree that he was a real man who was a Jewish teacher. And Roman crucifixion certainly did occur. So to that extent at least it is a historical representation.

This movie, in my opinion, was made to captivate those who follow that particular religion and/or beliefs.

I didn't hate it, but then again I didn't like it.

Mel Gibson has very strong religious beliefs and he wanted to portray those on the screen.
