Hey guys, I'm thinking about buying an MP3 player, ipod, iriver etc that plays music, video etc. Any ideas on a good value for money/technology model?
Thanks in advance.

I agree not an ipod stick with something that has nothing to do with itunes and drm.

I agree, skip the IPOD and ITunes.

I shopped around a finally settled with Creative and I'm really glad I did. Their online support is Top Notch and speedy fast.

Good Luck

Yeah, I'm kinda in the same boat. I'm looking for one that's not so tiny you can't push the buttons on it. It'd be nice if it took either SD or CF cards too.

I have to disagree with most everyone else on here, and recommend the iPod. iPod supports non DRM'd formats (like MP3, for example). And like every other online music store, purchased songs are DRM'd (though, them EMI Library will be DRM free in a month). And iTunes is by far, IMO, the best music software out there. I've yet to find another piece of software that organizes music more logically.

iTunes alone will prevent me from using any other device but an iPod. I hate every other piece of music software out there.

I too will encourage an iPod as I find them to be great music players. I have two and I love them, they work fine. I would also recommend a Zen Vision: M. It's a great music player, is a bit thicker than the iPod but for good reason, it plays videos longer, and has a much better screen.

Zen Vision M is the best player really, the screen doesn't crack like an iPod.

My brother has an iPod, and he dropped it on the ground, screen cracked and he can hear something broken inside. When I dropped my Zen Vision M, it played perfectly fine. Go with a Zen Vision M.

iTunes is probably the worst thing that happened to music software. How can anyone say its user friendly escapes me. But oh well. Its been a looong while since Ive been waiting to get my hands on the Creative Zen Vision M. They dont sell it here, so I'll have to get it online or something.

Hey guys, thanks for all your comments. I've been researching, researching and more researching and am finally thinking about a Creative Zen Vision M 60GB MP3/Video player (has all the features I want, or at least, I think I want (music, video, fm radio, recorder etc) anyone have one of these to give me their thoughts, ie ease of use, downloading music, video etc
Thanks in advance.

The 60GB version is supposed to be a bit ticker than the 30GB one. They are already working on a slimmer version so I dunno If ud rather wait for that one or if your dont mind. Also aparently there are only black ones for the 60GB version while the 30GB one has all diferent colors available.

I have the 30Gb version, and it works like a charm. I prefer syncing my music through winamp, since I load all my tracks into the winamp media library.
The batterytime is awsome, the screen is vivid, and xvid support? Hell yeh!
Screw the video Ipod and converting into mov-files. Xvid/Divx 4 life.

Ps. I could have done this alot more professionally, but it's getting late.

I have been thinkin if I should get 60GB or 30GB version... I mean I dont really have 60GB of media... so I should get the 30GB one...

The more I research, the more I like the creative Zen W 60gb pvp (love the look of the big screen) 250 hours video, 15,000 songs, thousands of pic's, recorder, organiser and FM radio, not cheap (about AU $600 or US $460) I nearlly ordered one online a couple of minutes ago, but have to check if it is in stock, so gives me a bit more time to consider (as usually I'm an impulse buyer, and decide I need it then and there, lol's)

Some gotchas on the Zen Vision M, ZVM (my 60GB purchased 1.5 weeks ago):

- out of the box, expect absolutely nothing. Besides a flashing blue led near its power connection port, the thing was completely dark for the first two hours. After which it showed some signs of life, but took overnight to fully charge and fire on up. Very dissappointing out-of-the-box experience--I wanted to play with it like NOW.

- the damn thing won't change off my usb wall-charger(works for ipod and sansa). It MUST be connected to a running PC, AND be recognized by the PC--I have no idea why, other than it forces us to fork out more $ for Creative's own magical charger. Oh, and it takes a hell of a long time to charge via PC... like 6 hours when really drained vs 2 off Creative's charger.

- you have to flick its little HOLD switch to get the thing to turn off the screen/backlight, otherwise they stay on and you get shit battery life (at least compared to my other players is sucks)

- the scroll pad kind of sucks... makes for very sloppy controls--they really need to rewrite the drivers

- before you do anything, update its bios and upgrade to WMP 11 if you haven't already.

...not a gotcha, but should say some dense tunes that had noticable compression artifacts on my little Sansa sound much better on the ZVM(why, no idea)--I play it with decent cans on my big stereo and sound quality seems excellent to me. Also, it's dumb I know, but love being able to set my own wallpaper! <attaching my current one>

If you plan on renting music (plays4sure) or playing vids, it's a no brainer, get the ZVM. If you already have a nice library of mp3's though, the ipod video is oooh so MUCH sexie--Face it, thin is in. Me, I love Rhapsody (hate it too, but let's not go there), so ipod just wasn't an option for me.

...anyway, at least you won't be blindsided now by its early user experience shortcomings--It's fine now, just got off to needlessly bumpy start.

Uhm excuse me, but Ive always believed that everything with a recheargeable battery must be fully charged before its first use. EVERYTHING.

Mine wasn't charged and it only took about 3 hours to full charge. But I'm still enjoying mine and I have a silicone cover for it. I even bought plugs to where you can hook it up to the TV. Here my video example of it.

Well I went out and bought my MP4 player, decided on the Creative Zen W 60gb PVP (yeah it's a bit bulky, but I can live with that, for the great video screen)
I LOVE IT !!!!!!!, Yep I had to charge it for 3 hours (but I could still play with it whilst it was charging)

Have allready loaded all my photo's from the PC (and some I did'nt want lol's)
Downloaded some music to put on there (Gay Anthems Digital version, Robbie Williams, Silverchair and Eskimo Joe) plus all the music that was on my PC.

The store even took $50 off and threw in a compact flash adapter (so I can upload from my cameras XD card) and screen protector.

IT ROCKS!!!

PS Great vid, BrandonSBCA, thanks

I finally ordered my Zen Vision M! Now... patience...

:( I can't wait.
