Often I wake up in the morning hearing music in my head, generally something that I heard the previous day. This morning it was "Va pensiero" from Verdi's Nabucco, which I liked, and it stayed with me for much of the morning. Yesterday, it was the overture to
Leonard Bernstein's "Candide", which I had seen performed the previous evening. I like the piece, but I didn't enjoy waking up to it and I was annoyed that it or "Glitter and Be Gay" accompanied me through much of the day. I would much rather it have been "Tales from the Vienna Woods", which was the prior day.

Do any of you have similar experiences with music in your head when you wake up?

That Havana song is driving me up the wall.

My clock radio is set to a 24-hours classical music station. I turn it on when I go to bed and turn it off when I get out of bed. I have been waking up to it for years.

I only wake up with music in my head when I wake out of a dream that had music.

Last week I dreamed of one of my old college geology classes on a field trip in what looked like a scene from Avatar with its floating mountains.... and had Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries going in my head half the day.

I get music in my head all the time, not just when I wake up.

If it is an original theme or idea, I sit down at a keyboard or pick up a guitar or bass and start working it up into a complete tune. If it is a piece by someone else I have to play a recording of it to kill the earworm.

I get my own music playing in my head so much that I put on headphones and play some else's music just to drown it out. My head is constantly full of music; I've never nbeen able to control it or make it stop.

Happens to me a lot, it's a common phenomenon.

I used to play in bands years ago and shared my music that way. But nowadays I 'compose' purely for my own amusement and entertainment. I no longer feel the need to inflict my self-indulgent neo-classical prog-rock epics upon the world. :D

I get songs in my head that can come and go all day---not so much first thing in the morning--but sometimes in the middle of the night if I can't sleep

It's just usually the hook from a catchy song that goes over and over in my head from the time I go to bed until I wake up. Sometimes I have to play something else to get it out.

I've found that if I listen to the song all the way until the end I can usually get the song out of my head. Its usually something I don't like and am forced to listen to something I cant stand. Otherwise it's stuck in my head for days.
