Well since you say you hardly see her, I would deny it. Just make sure your profile is set to where nobody can see your Wall posts, thank god I found out how to block most stuff I have on my Facebook profile.

AND.........there are a zillion privacy settings at facebook so check them THOROUGHLY.......sometimes I feel like removing myself.......

yea accept her, it would be rude not too. but before you do you can make a "limited" friend list. You can then go into the privacy setting and choose what the people on the limited friend list can see. Once you do that, add her to it and she'll be none the wiser.

[when making a limited friend list, you're actually just making a regular list and just calling it limited, fyi]

A 12 year-old girl should not be on Facebook. Report her to the site, and they'll shut her down. Problem solved.

"You're too young to be on my facebook, my friends cuss and stuff on there" It doesn't have to be a gay thing.

Umm I do not know why you say that? There is a term in high school for kids who do not have a facebook profile it is called social suicide. My kids have had an account for two years now (since they were 11) and all their friends have accounts as well.

Sorry back to topic, If you are not ready to come out then simply do not add her.

I run into this situation every now and again too.

I don't use Facebook like I use to use MySpace.

Facebook to me is a networking tool that I use to keep in touch with all of my friends, past coworkers, friends from school, etc..

IOW, I don't just accept every "friend request" that shows up at my account.

There are some people from my past who've sent me requests, but there are reasons why they're in past, and I don't want them meddling around in my present. So I ignore their request. After awhile they stop sending them, end of story.

I've even been known to "remove" a few "connections" every now and again, and that person didn't seem to notice. Which was good for me because I didn't have to go through the drama of explaining why they're not part of my Facebook account. ;)

You could just "ignore" her request without explanation, and see how persistent she is.

Accept her request, but when you do add her to a predetermined list which limits her access to what she can see, read, and post to on your Facebook account.

Or

Explain to her that you use your Facebook account for professional reasons, and not necessarily for "social" reasons.

Hope that helps. (*8*)

Hahahaha -- you HAVE TO deny her request...

I actually changed my last name to a "made up" one because I was having people try and friend me from grade school 30 years ago...

I was like -- this is just TOO MUCH to try and catch everyone up on my life from that far back...

I also told my nephew that I refused his request because it was for my "grown up" friends -- he knows I'm gay and didn't question that at all...

Good luck -- and let us know how it goes...

:):):)

I had a similar situation. My dad's wife tried to friend me. Can you say "Awkward"? The issue for me was not because I'm gay, It's that I don't want her in my business so I just let the request sit there forever and after time I just hit ignore. if she ever brings it up I'll just say "I haven't been on FB in ages".

since you're partnered and probably out does it even matter at this point? someone from 2nd grade isn't gonna say much. unless you're keeping it from your family I guess.

I don't keep it from my family -- its just that I'm not trying to reconnect with people that I played on the merry go round with back when I was 7...

I have an unusual last name -- so it was easy for them to find me...

Maybe I SHOULD have friended my nephew -- but I'd rather keep FB for just my friends at this point...

Its more fun that way...

Umm I do not know why you say that?

Current internet law is that children younger than 13 cannot join sites like Facebook. It's in the TOS for the site. She lied about her age when she joined.

4 Registration and Account Security
-----3. You will not use Facebook if you are under 13.

Of course, this only solves the problem for a year...

I'd add her because it's courteous to do so for family members.

However, change your privacy settings. Under privacy settings ---> profile ---> and under each of the categories, type her name in for "except these people". Double check by typing her name in the box marked "See how a friend sees your profile."

I have the same problem at the moment and 12 trs old too.
Isn't there an age limit for kids on face book and bebo?
