Luckily it isn't the 'main' drop-down list that my search engine is on, but another one which nevertheless has other words on it from other websites

How do you stop the damn computer memorizing 'Pics of gay guys' for example and then showing it to anyone who types in the letter 'P' on a completely different website?

This computer will out me yet.... LOL

Are you speaking of the google search box?

You haven't provided quite enough details to troubleshoot precisely - what browser and version are you using? And what's the "non-main" drop-down list - the Firefox in-browser searching?

I think he means the formular data manager thing .. when you write something in any <input type="text"> box, it remembers it.

Corny's getting what I mean.

Take the search box in the top right of this page, for example... I've never ever typed anything in there, yet when I go to it and type 'k' up comes karate, kittens, koala bears - WORDS THAT A FAMILY FRIEND'S YOUNG DAUGHTER TYPED IN ON A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT WEBSITE THREE OR FOUR YEARS AGO!

The same with youporngay.com - I've never typed anything in their search box other than 'military', yet up comes, inexplicably, names of music artists that I searched for on Napster or Yahoo music or something two or three years ago.

My point is that my thread titles on JUB are also being memorized - I type in 'm' and up comes 'My JUB threads are being memorized....

It stands to reason that my thread titles will appear on other websites - so for example:

If I let someone onto my computer (one of my cousins, for example), they go to a website I've never been on, they type a letter in the search box, and up comes my JUB threads for them to read - 'Pics of gay guys' or 'Thinking of coming out' or any of many, many others - THE COMPUTER HAS JUST GIVEN AWAY THAT I'M GAY.

I realise this is all convoluted, unlikely and even paranoid, but it remains a slight possibility nevertheless.

I have a standard PC, Windows XP, Internet Explorer of whatever latest version (automatic updates)

It wouldn't surprise me if there were a hundred other ways that someone could find out I'm gay on this computer if they knew what they were looking for.... LOL

Here's what I'd do, if you can't set up an entirely different account/user login for the machine.

As your machine uses IE as the regular browser, download another browser like Firefox or Safari. Don't put a shortcut to the new browser anywhere easy to find. If the computer ever asks you. DON'T make the new browser the default browser - make sure IE is the default.

Set the preferences of your new browser so it doesn't remember history. Now, whenever you are looking at private stuff, use the new "secret" browser. Other users are more than likely to only use IE, which will have no record of your past visits. If they do come across your "secret" browser, the history should not be visible anyway.

Using Opera right now, so I can't check where you can disable this in the other browsers. But look in the settings for a forms or autofill autocomplete option .. manager or whatever and disable this. You also should be able to delete the form data.
I believe you can delete individual entries by clicking into a box and make the suggestions come up, then navigate to one of the suggestions and press the delete button.

OPERA is easy to keep "clean"....... :p

TOOLS and PREFERENCES.
When you exit set it to clear EVERYTHING....... it WILL.......

ChickenGuy, I see what you're asking now.

First, as a quick/manual fix for past problems, and you say you're using IE, see this (or this). Try the "Delete Forms" option to remove what you type in the search box and see if that helps.

Secondly, to prevent IE from "remembering" this stuff, see this page. You can uncheck "Forms" from the options there (and web addresses). Try experimenting with opening and closing IE and seeing what it remembers after you run the delete above then make the form change.

Also, the idea to install a second, "secret" browser andy suggested is a cool one. Also, I don't know if this fits your comfort level, but a program like Sandboxie lets you create an isolated Windows environment where you can run things only in that environment.

or just download firefox and use the private browsing setting.

LOL!!!! I cannot believe I've been SO brainless.... I just press the 'Delete' key on the word and it disappears!
