Hi guys, its been a while from when I last posted on Jub, been probably around 6 months lol, thought i'd become a bit more active. So i'm starting with a post of my own. I've recently built a computer on a budget, a gamming computer.

I'm running it on 4gb of DDR3 RAM which I chosen purely because it said it was compactable in the book it came with. Now It says on my motherboard I can run up to 8GB's of RAM using 2 Slots, so 2x4GB sticks. There is nothing in the book for 8GB of RAM as a surgestion.

And I was wondering if you guys would help me find some.

Motherboard - ASUS P5G41C-M LX, MATX, LGA775, G41, 1333, 2 DDR2 1066

I think thats the name of it anyway, its a micro ATX which can run DDR2 and DDR3 RAM, I'm after DDR3 RAM of 8GBs

Here's some pictures for those who would like to have a look at the finshed product.

At the moment i'm using 4GB of Dominator Corsair RAM, which is going ok but I would like a bit more bang for my buck. :help:

Edit: I found this on ebay, this is my motherboard if this helps

Hey there,

Having had a look at your motherboard, the one linked on Ebay, you have 4x slots for RAM, i would suggest using 4x2gb Ram in these, but if you want to get the best then bare in mind that 2 of the slots can have up to 1066mhz RAM (Overclocked to 1333) and the other 2 can take 800mhz or Overclocked to 1066.

The Motherboard manual will describe which one, but your better off getting 4x2gb because if one goes faulty your PC still has 6gb of ram etc... :)

If you do choose to go for 2x4gb then use the faster 2 ports and make sure your processor supports the ram as well as a lot of 4gb sticks require i5 / i7 processors.

Hope this helps.

Message me if you need more help.

Silly question but very relevant: Are you using a 64-bit operating system? If not, you might as well stay at 4GB of RAM.

Nice case, that's the Antec Skeleton, right? I considered buying one when it first launched and was getting a bunch of reviews, but decided to go with a more conventional form factor. I dunno, to "match the room"? :)

Nice to see a Dr. House avatar as well. :) "It's not lupus!"

Yes its an antec Skeleton case, i've has it sitting empty for over a year because when I saw the case I had to have it, looks awesome.

I'm running 64bit windows 7. The motherboard has 2x DDR2 and 2x DDR3 so your not able to run 4 slots of the same RAM. My understanding of it, is you either use DDR2 or DDR3, am i wrong?

My processor is a Core 2 Duo 3.33

My RAM is Dominator Corsair 1333 OC ram, 2x2GB sticks

Also that video doesn't do the antec skeleton case any favors, it looks its best when its FULL of things, all those had were a PSU and a motherboard by the looks of it.

I really like mine, I was going to go for a completly see threw case but i'm glad I eneded up with this one, i'm not looking to make anything that matches any thing in the room lol. Got to look strange and cool!

To be honest, if i were you i would stick with your 4gb DDR3 as that's still pretty powerful.

Only go up to 8 if you are getting lag, but then that could be due to your processor and not the ram.

Entirely up to you and the money you have to spend though :)

Oh yes and btw, Love the case. Got the Antec 900 myself as unfortunately the Antec Skeleton doesn't fit where i want it to!

I'm not really experencing lag as such, I'm just want it to move a bit faster than it is now.

The only thing is that alot of DDR3 ram especially running 8Gb requires a faster processor than the Core 2 Duo 3.3, so in my opinion i would keep what you have for a while and then when you get the 8gb ram get a new processor as well, either i5 or 7 as they would run very nicely with 8GB, but its entirely up to you dude.

Amazon have some good deals on RAM at the moment so you could go for a cheapish set and then if its all working fine upgrade to Gaming Corsair or similar.

Fair enough, i guess I should have gone with an i5 processor, thing is when i started this project to build a PC I had orignally decided to make a budget PC so I didn't overspend on a motherboard which has given me several problems. Can't use any of the i-processors in this motherboard unfortunally. Its a case of having to replace the majority of my new computer lol and i can't be doing that only after building it. I'm running Crysis 2 on Hardcore and Wow on maximum graphics, same on rift. Not sure I really need it to be much more faster.

Just being speed greedy!

Hehe... Well glad its all working okay.

Ooooh Crysis 2, been tempted to get that myself :) is it any good (Compared to Crysis)

ooooh now a WoW addict :P Gave that up years ago lol

I've been a wow adict for the last erm... 5-6 years, when ever it came out lol.

Crysis 2 is awesome, graphics are insane I have to say. Its only the demo tho because the actual game hasn't been realised yet, if you want to try it download stream and download the demo from there.

Its all working good, could probably do with saving some money now. lol

Saying that tonight, I downloaded a VERY VERY old game called Total annihilation, Its one of the most awesome games ever, playing skirmish against 3 AI, when I play 1 game can take 5-6 hours easy, you get into it so much you don't realise where time has gone. There is a online part but I like to play with myself.... Then i go back on the game and go on the multiplayer part :D

Alright dude, yeha i already have a steam account, add me if you want "exblade999" I have a loada games on it, i have like 70 lol.. bought them all when they were deals really cheap lol
