Mysterious Skin is the most disturbing movie I've ever seen. Don't you agree?

I may have to agree with you--- and disturbing on so many levels! I think it's a film that people will be watching and thinking about for many years!!

It was very disturbing. I went away from the movie thinking wow and WOW.

I love all of Gregg Araki's movies...but this was his magnum opus... his blend of the surreal and the intensity with which he makes his movies is truly dynamic... this movie had me aching mentally... the scene where joseph gorden levitt's character gets brutalized and when he had to give the old guy a massage were too much to handle... I was awestruck... Gregg Araki never ceases to amaze me... other great films are the Doom Generation, Nowhere, and Splendor

Excellent movie. Disturbing-absolutely; but great movie overall.
The ONLY thing I absolutely despised about the movie was the horrible accents! The town where the film takes place in is not far from where I live in Kansas and trust me they DO NOT talk like that. The whole hick accent really annoyed me since the only people in Kansas who talk like that are farmers and, literally, country folk who live out in the country. I wanted to strangle Michelle Trachtenberg's voice every time she talked LOL but aside from that great movie. (Sorry for the rant)

The rape scene and the message scene didn't really bother me. What bothered me was how the little boy was giving a blowjob to the fat nerdy kid (didn't show on screen but that was what he was supposed to be doing), and how he described fisting the coach as a kid-wtf!

It was an excellent but disturbing movie.
The acting was superb...... I've watched this one twice even though the subject matter was not too appealing.
I think this is one of the few instances where the movie is as good or better than the book.
Although there were not explicit scenes the implication of sex between the young guy and his hookups was very erotic, and disturbing too.
I count it as one of the 10 best movies I've ever seen.....

The part that got to me most was the fisting aspect of the abuse and how when the guy with glasses put his hand in the dead cow, it triggered a memory or something of how it must have felt. The massaging part for me was quite touching, in that the guy just wanted to feel touched by someone, even if he was paying for the privilege.
