I definitely appreciate the big things in my house: heat, water, hot water, electricity, internet, Netflix and living in a safe and peaceful community. I also am grateful to live in a nice house in a pretty good neighborhood.

I run a pretty efficient home and can easily be without certain things. Other more important things I can run out of for a day or two, but certain things I hate being without. The first one to come to mind was 2% milk. Mostly for cereal, skim milk sucks with cereal, IMHO.
Also, paper towel. I chronically wash my hands in the kitchen and always use paper towel to dry them.

My list:
paper towel
2% milk
bottled water (tap water kills my stomach at times)

What's on your list?

Dog food. Cat food. Beer. And everyone is happy.

The tap water.... might look at getting a Britta water filter. I hear they are great. Plus you don't have to tote cases of bottled water home.

Paper towels are handy. I have a stack of terry cloth dish towels. 30 or 40 towels. When I get low I run the dirties through the washer with hot water. Twice.

Thanks Fredroy for the tips. I have filtered water from my refrigerator. It's a really good filter. I like having bottled water around just in case.

I don’t have a bathtub. I hate that I don’t, so I guess it counts?

I couldn’t go without my blockout curtains.

A washing machine. There's no way I'm hand washing my laundry and I've no idea where the nearest launderette is (or even if they still exist).

I have used a Britta water filter for years. I have never had to descale the kettle!

Isn't it cheaper just to buy a new kettle every now and again? My mother buys ironing water to put in her steam iron. She believes, probably correctly, that it will prolong the life of the iron, but at what cost?

automatic garage door opener. . .it's a pain in the corporate assetts when the power goes out; and, one has to unhook the opener and hoist the door open manually. Especilly since it's a 16 foot wide and 9 foot high door.

I can't do without living alone. Over my dead body would I ever have a roommate.

My security systems -- motion sensors, lights, cameras, monitors and alarms . . .

Going over potential video evidence this morning, I spotted a little crumb bandit in the kitchen.
