Try it, looks safe enough its just water, where do u think the water goes when u swim?

I've just heard about nasal irrigation and wondered if any of you use it? I'm scared to try it because pouring water into your nose looks deadly to me. lol
Will this really help reduce soar throats, post nasal and a stuffy nose?

Nasal irrigation does help. There are a few caveats. Be sure to add the salt, it does make a difference. If you're going to use the pot, be sure to clean it periodically. Also, use distilled water if possible instead of tap water.

It does help clear the sinuses- especially in the morning and during times of the year where there are high numbers of pollen. The water can pool in the recesses of the sinuses which causes water to run from your nose if you bend over to pick up something later in the day.

There are commercial products that you can buy which have both a rinse bottle (or a pot) and salt packets so that you get the correct strength of salt in the water.

There's also a pressurized saline rinse that is available called Simply Saline works well, too.

For severe sinus congestion I use a method the doctor told my mother about back in the early 60's. Even a neighbor's specialist told her to use the same method when surgery did not aleviate her problems. Just fill a tall glass with pretty warm water and a teaspoon of salt. Fill a childs nasal aspirator with the solution and gently squeeze it up one nostril and then the next, alternating back and forth.

and is there a way to avoid the water from pooling in the nasal pockets? For some reason I'm still kind of scared to try this thing because I feel that the water will somehow get stuck in my nose and I'll start chocking on it. lol

The majority of the water just passes through. There can be small amount that gets retained in the rear of the sinus cavity. It can be avoided by leaning the head forward when doing the irrigation. Or sometimes leaning the head forward and blowing the nose afterward will help.

Even if there is some retained water- it's just a few drops.

I will try to use one tonight before bed, I am very congested

the video I saw recommend doing some exercises to clean up any accumulation

like bending over after using the pot ;)

I've used the Neti Pot for about a year now with really good results. Both my house and job are low-humidity environments that kill the lining inside my nose. If I use the neti pot a few times a week it really helps me.

It does get better and easier over time. I remember the first few times I used it felt like I was drowning. Now its a piece of cake.

haha oh Kyle Riabko.....love him

i've wanted to try the netti pot cause my nose is just always stuffy and I get really bad allergies....i should give it a shot

OK, so I tried the neti pot for the first time, and while it didn't go as smoothly as it seemed on youtube demos, it wasn't that bad at all. I will have to use it for several weeks to see if there this stuff actually helps. I have to figure out how to be less messy because the water was leaking all over me. lol

I tried to post to your thread the other day, but with meltdown, no luck. When I watched the video, my thought was, he doesn't do it right, or not like the instructions with my neti pot. I found if you look down at the drain opening in the sink, then turn your head to a 90 degree angle, then insert in top nostril, it works. You need to bend at the waist, so that water doesn't cause a problem. But it is a trial and error thingy.

I was surprised that it works, and I didn't drown.

So, uh..does this actually clean the mucus and, well, snot out of the nasal passages?

I have used the Neti Pot before it is safe to use, I had a Deviated septum but thankfully after surgery I don't need it anymore.

The Neti Pot is the best thing for anyone who has nasal problems. I suffer from allergies and it has really helped me keep it under control for the past couple of years (after DR OZ was on Oprah). Make sure the water is warm and you have your saline packets.

If you are worried about making a mess while using the neti pot, just do it in the shower. That's the way I always do it.

I started doing it in the shower, it is easier

it really helped me this time around, I had a very bad cold. It made it more bearable.

I use it before going to bed, and in the morning. I will use it less onces I am out of this cold.
