Attached in this message is a screenplay I originally wrote in 2007 that was entered into an online contest - only the first, second, and third place were announced, of which my entry was not (which means it could have been 4th place or 130th, who knows), but I thought it was worth sharing.

All screenplays have a log line, a one sentence description of the plot designed to get someone interested in reading it. Here is mine:

"18 year old high school senior Nathan Parks finds it more and more difficult to maintain his self-induced isolated, anti-social persona when Beau, a young man immune to Nathan's cruel attitude towards other people, moves in next door, forcing Nathan to finally confront the tragic motives behind his cynical and reclusive way of life."

The story is not pornographic, and contains only one non-explicit sex scene (if that deters you from reading, oh well). This document is copyrighted (I even have the little copyright certificate from the Library of Congress - it's really cool), so, legally, reading it is the only thing that can be done with it. I love criticism (how else am I going to know how to make it better). If you like it, great, if you hate it, even better, but if you're going to tell me you hated it, I ask that you please tell me why. The document is in standard screenplay format, which makes for an easy and quick read, and I'll be happy to explain any of the abbreviated notations that may cause some confusion, but most are self explanatory.

Hope you enjoy it if you read it.

Thanks, Fool-in-Love, for that response. I am incredibly happy and excited you found it so entertaining and moving.

Like you, I'm definitely in love with dramatic romance stories, but I found that when observing those involving gay couples, the main plot devise was always the fact that being a gay couple was, even at the lowest levels, taboo and therefore was forcing the two apart, but, as being gay for me has been as natural as having blue eyes, I wanted to deviate from the type of story where being a gay couple was the main source of conflict. Instead, I wanted to have a story that involved two gay people in love for the first time, but the forces attempting to keep them apart (there always needs to be something in a dramatic romance) had nothing to do with them being gay, so far in that there is never one single mention or reference to "gay" or "homosexual" in the entire screenplay. I never wanted it to be about them being gay, I wanted it to be about them being in love, which is what motivated me to write it.

I, again, thank you for your comments fool-in-love, they were really wonderful, and I hope others will enjoy it as much as you did. Happy reading!

I love this. I don't find many thoughtful, loving gay stories. But, keep them coming.

Wow.. I'm speechless

I hate crying. I normally hate stories that make me cry. (Which yours did.) But it was the best story I've read in years. Now I'm depressed worse than I already was. (Stupid sad stories are all I've read and heard today. Plus I'm having a family problem. My home burned down.) Now I'm going to stop rambling on and go cry.

Ps. Awesome story. Would have liked to have felt more love between them though. Also The relationship with his dad could have been a little clearer.

That's very sad to hear about your house. I wish you the best in these times.

Also The relationship with his dad could have been a little clearer.

Yeah, the dad character was always the most challenging to write, and, even as I was writing it, I recognized it as the weak part of the story. For some reason, I've always had trouble writing father/son relationship drama, so much so that in another screenplay I wrote, I resorted to simply deleting the dad character altogether and left his absence unexplained (not that it needed explaining in the context of the story).

Hmmm, cool. Haven't read the work yet, but will definitely read when i get time. You know, it'd been a long time that i was searching for a love story; not a story that's only filled with sex and nothing more. Reading the comments it seems i've found what i was looking for. Thanks! Btw anyone knows links to any other gay love story sites?

Wow, what a fantastic story. I loved it. I'm not ashamed to say I had a tear or two in my eye at the end. I don't normally go for romance stories, but after reading the comments, I had a go and I definitely didn't regret it. Please don't hesitate to put any more work of yours on here because I know I would definitely read it.

One thing; next time, get someone to proof it. There were a few spelling mistakes in there. This doesn't normally (and didn't) hamper my enjoyment of a story, but it was a little annoying. Otherwise, it was excellent. The character development was great, and I really empathised with the characters, which doesn't often happen with amateur stories. I thought your portrayal of the father-son relationship was excellent; it felt real. Maybe it could have been looked at in more depth, but I don't think it was necessary.

Thanks very much for sharing this with us, and please do continue writing.

Heart-wrenching ... wonderful characters, such tragedy ... You really got me with this story .....

Beautiful screenplay! Thank you for sharing it. Is a film forthcoming?

I am really glad you enjoyed it. As far as a film goes, I really have no idea how I would get something like that going. Screenplay writing is mostly a hobby, mainly because I don't think I have the discipline to write a full length novel and a screenplay is an easy way to tell a story in a relatively short amount of writing. Unless someone here wants to lend me 20 million or so (I'm good for it, you can trust me, I'm from the internet :D), I wouldn't plan on this being a forthcoming film anytime soon.

Powerfull, Heart Wrenching and Beautiful. I completely cried at the end (Anyone who didn't is emotionally dead inside) It was great!

Oh my God...that was the most amazing piece of writing I have ever read. I cried so hard at the end. It was so beautiful and so incredible that I felt every ounce of pain that Beau felt at the end. About halfway through I could tell what was going to happen in the end, but I was so hoping that I was wrong. I strongly encourage that you put this out there and try your hardest to get it made into a movie because I would love nothing more than to watch it over and over again.
