What is the best way to transfer my wmv files to my macbook pro. Can I still view the wmv files on the mac? Thanks

Install the free Flip4Mac components for Quicktime, which will allow WMV files to play in your Quicktime player.

It doesn't support DRM-protected WMV files, however. If you need to play DRM'd WMV files, you may need to install Windows and transfer your licenses.

what is the best way to transfer the files. I can't email the files as attachment to my new Mac? Suggestion?

The easiest way would be to use a USB thumb drive or external hard drive. If you don't have any, a USB thumb drive is very cheap (a 2GB one shouldn't cost more than about US$10).

Alternately, if your new and old machine are connected to the same network, you could share the location of the files on your Windows machine, then copy them to your Mac Hard drive.

If you have access to an Apple Store and your machine is a new purchase, they will copy all your files and settings from one machine to the other for free. You need to make an appointment to do so.

I was just curious...can you install a Windows Media Player on a MAC?

There is a Mac version of WMP but it's crap and hasn't been updated in a very long time. It too doesn't support DRM protected media.

Best to get the Flip4Mac plugin for QT and VLC Player.

The only video player I use on my mac is VLC. It plays practically every video filetype out there, including WMVs.

For PC's I'd recommend GOM Player. Something about it I just like better than VLC.

a mac is a pc (no, i don't get tired of saying it)

hardware.
today "mac" is just a brand name for a PC with some idiotic special chip that solely exists for the purpose of allowing mac os to be installed.

Nice try Keeland, but historically and factually wrong in many ways :)

See .. for starters - I can run any OS that I want :)
