This lad i know is 16, i dont really like him and he keeps going on about how he is going to have sex with this 14 year old girl who has said that she will have sex with him...
I have a very strong feeling this is illegal but need your answers on this to prove it.
If this is illegal what can i do about it and should i do anything about it?
Thanks Guys.

The age of consent in the UK is 16, so if this lad you know has sex with your sister's friend, he is definitely breaking the law. Since the 2003 Sexual Offences Bill became law, all sexual acts – not just penetrative sex – became a criminal offence if at least one of the people involved, male or female, is under 16.

As for what you should do about it, I suppose you could first explain these facts to the young man so that at the very least he cannot claim he was never informed about it. If they both remain determined to go ahead with it, however, then it would be best to discuss it with your sister and have her sit her friend down and discuss it with her.

In the long run it will have to be their choice, however, and I do not recommend traumatising the 14 year old girl by getting the law involved. If, however, you are so disturbed by this that you feel the need to tell someone, then why not the parents of the little eager beavers? Let them decide whether they want to get the law involved, because when all is said and done, it is the job of the parents of the girl to protect and look after her.

Good advice here.

Dude, I still do not see, why should any of this gossip be any of your business?

It actually isn't.

Think it over. The situation may really leave you hanging high and dry.

Besides, you are saying, 'you don't really like the guy'? Is it for you to like him?

No, I thought the age of consent for girls in the UK was 14. Age of consent for male homosexual relations is 16.

If that is indeed true, then it's technically legal.

My advice is you mind your own business.

Teenagers are going to have sex no matter what, and the last thing a 40 year old man needs to do is be involved in any way.

Run.

In England, Scotland and Wales, the age of consent – the age at which the law says you can agree to have sex – is 16 for both heterosexual (straight) and homosexual (gay) sex. In Northern Ireland, both people have to be over 17.

The 40 does not refer to the poster's age but rather the number of his posts. I almost got tripped up by that too. I was almost flipping out wondering what a 40 year old guy was doing involving himself in the drama of 14 and 16 year olds. And why his sister would be friends with the 14 year old... Then I rechecked and all was well. He never said his age at all actually.

true.

It's still none of his business and he should stay out of it.

Yea it's illegal. At least with the girl. he can have sex since he's 16. By doing it's he might get into trouble becasue he has sex with someone under the consent age. As long as no one say anything, the sex should eb OK. Have sex or not is his personal....stuffs. You shouldn't interfere as long as there no danger to it...hope he knows safe sex.
THE AGE OF CONSENT IN UK IS 16 EVERYONE

I dont intend to do anything about it...
"If this is illegal what can i do about it and should i do anything about it?"
I asked if i should do anything about it.
I was looking out for her because this is not the first under-age girl he has had sex with, he doesnt seem to have any trouble telling me these things, its just this time its my friends sister.
The big worry is, what if he got her pregnant and i knew all along that these two were going to have sex with each other.

I guess this is the end of the discussion and i will keep my mouth shut and stay out of their business.

Assuming you're on the up and up here, and mature enough to handle it ...

I think it's considerate and caring of you to be concerned about the 14 year old girl.

And again assuming you're on the up and up, I disagree with the posters who've said you should mind your own business.

I think you should very discretely talk to the 14 year old girl (or tell your friend about it and he or she can talk to his/her sister) to make sure she knows about condoms, pregnancy and STDs and saying no if she wants to. You know, if he has HPV (genital warts) she could end up with cervical cancer. This is not only about sex. I'm not saying you should go into any sex detail, only making sure she has information and, if she needs it, someone to talk to.

It's usual in many European countries (don't know about the UK specifically) that when the age of the involved kids is within 3 years of each other then there is no legal issue.

I very seriously doubt you could get in any real trouble were he to get her pregnant or something. Honestly 14-16 isnt a really big age gap, so if unless he's blackmailing her or something I'm with the mind your own business crowd. Honestly I'd be more worried that she's under the impression that she's going to get something out of the deal, eg a position in the band or a club or something.

It's good that they aren't in the USA. Something like that happens around here and the feds will be after him with a pedophile/social deviant label on him for life.

I'm not expert, but i'd suggest you stay out of it, or at least warn him if what might happen as a result of his actions. It's their choice what to do, and if they get caught or she gets pregnant, then they have to deal with the consequences.
