Need some clearing up on something regarding diabetes. I'm probably just paranoid but would like feedback.

Basically, I fear I might have diabetes. However, it's probably not the case and I am just being paranoid.

I was last blood test in the hospital on August 2nd, where my glucose levels were normal as well as everything else.

1.) A lot of people have told me it's highly unlikely I could have developed diabetes in under 2 months. Is this true? Keep in mind it does not run in my family for what it's worth.

I have frequent urge to urinate but mostly pass small amounts. I feel like that's important because diabetes would make you pee excessive amounts or so I think.

I went to doctor and I was urine tested just as of this week and no sugar was found in my urine. Just microscopic bits of blood in urine. Doctor did not suspect diabetes and prescribed me antibiotics.

So basically, I am staying the course and hoping that my urinary symptoms clear up with antibiotics if I'm dealing with infection. If not better at end, will see doctor. Just kinda paranoid I guess.

From what you say there is no medical evidence that you have diabetes or even that you are at risk of developing it. Yet it seems you are still not at ease. Medical problems can stop people from accepting the kind of good news you just got from your doctor, but that would be medical issues related to mental health. Your pancreas sounds like it is fine.

Does your doctor know you are having a hard time accepting the test results?

If your A1c is okay and you have no other indications, you are probably over-reacting to your fears.

Jensu846 rightly suggests a bladder infection. I have read that trace amounts of blood in urine are not that unusual.

As for frequency of urination there are many factors that could contribute, including changes in prescription or OTC drugs.

I'm just paranoid about it because I woke up last Monday morning with a dry like throat feeling. But through the day, it clears up a bit and doesn't feel the same. If it wasn't for that symptom, I'd be a little more at ease. As recently as Saturday, I noticed those rings you get under your eye when you don't get a lot of sleep. Thing is, I sleep just fine. I rarely have had to wake up to use the restroom and if I do, it's only once.

My eyes kinda burn a little bit too like they are irritated. I don't know if this is just from the stress about me worrying about what's going on or what.

The "dry" throat happened around the same time as my urinary symptoms. It doesn't really feel like i need a drink or anything. Like I said, I was just blood tested a few months ago and everything checked out fine.

And when I say people, I mean like family, friends, that kinda thing. The doctor I saw said she didn't think it was diabetes.

Small amounts of blood in the urine (hematuria) is a common finding in children, teenagers and sometimes into the early twenties. Tests are run but if there's no evidence of bladder infection, high blood pressure, kidney disease or other diseases that would account for the blood, it's considered "normal".

If your blood glucose testing is normal and you have no glycosuria, then you don't have diabetes.

Given your symptoms, it's more likely that you have a hay fever, a UTI/prostatitis or a more common illness.

The underlying question is "Why do you fear that you may have diabetes, in particular?".

I was tested 2 months ago in regards to blood glucose on a basic blood test. It wasn't fasting though but my glucose levels were normal and they said I didn't have diabetes. No sugar was in urine then either.

I fear that I may have it because I don't know if diabetes can develop in less than 2 months or not. And further, I woke up with a dry throat around the same time my urinary issues popped up. Maybe they are two different causes but the dry throat symptom is mainly my fear of it. Though, it clears up at times and feels better when i swallow so not really sure what it is.

So because they explicitly said you don't have diabetes you fear that you have it?

Diabetes does not develop in two months. Have you considered that perhaps a sore throat is to blame for your sore throat (gasp)? Drink hot tea (with honey), and suck on a cough drop. You'll be fine.

I fear that I have it because of the throat issue occurring around the same time as my urinary issues. I had been drinking soda every day and I think maybe my urinary issues were caused by that.

I have tried cough drops already. No luck. It's been exactly a week since the throat issue occurred and I still have it. Not sure what it is from. I have had my voice cut out a few times randomly and had a bit of a cough too. Lately, been having tired eyes with black eye bags under my eyes. Just not sure what is wrong.

If it's not diabetes, what could it be? Seems like it could be hay fever seeing as how the symptoms kinda match those things. I guess I'll ask the doctor if my symptoms do not improve.

Like I said, probably just paranoid about the whole thing.

If it's not diabetes, what could it be?

Sounds very much like seasonal allergies. It's ragweed season and in your area, both elm and grass pollens are very high this time of year. Have you had allergy testing?

And of course, it could always be a low grade viral syndrome. An inexpensive blood test can rule this out.

I have not had allergy testing. I have an HMO for insurance so I'd have to see my primary health doctor to get a blood test done. I plan on seeing her if my symptoms are not improved and see a urologist and get blood work done.

It should not be anything serious I don't think. Just weird how I have a bladder issue AND allergy related problem at same time.

I am diabetic and none of the symptoms you describe sound like diabetes to me. If you had dizzy spells, felt weak or were tired or were having blurred vision then I would have further tests. The blood work you had done would show elevated glucose levels and your doctor would have had more tests done. The A1c test shows your average levels for a three month time span. I was diagnosed when I had my annual physical, I had no symptoms.

As some of the others have said you might have allergies or an infection, follow thru with your plans to see your doctor again. Remember an annual physical should be done, most HMO's pay the full cost.

It sounds like you might be a hypochondriac.

Diabetes (depending on the type) can most definitely develop rapidly, but usually that is type 1 and in that instance, you'd likely be very sick, very fast. Losing weight rapidly (my friend who was diagnosed with type I in their twenties lost three or four pounds a week for a month without trying), extreme blurred vision, and feeling like they ran a marathon when they woke up in the morning from extreme thirst and excessing urination (they wet their bed!) They also constantly ate food more and more due to increase hunger and they still kept on losing weight.

Type 2 is usually the "asymptomatic" one, but most of the time you are diagnosed at an older age, are overweight, and it is far more manageable. So this doesn't sound like that either.

I also pee a lot sometimes in small amounts (and I'm not diabetic), but it's usually just because every second i feel even a small urge my OCD tells me to urinate.

You should get your anxiety checked instead of your physical health.

Do you drink soda?

If it's not diabetes, what could it be?

I had similar symptoms. For me I was able to trace it down to the High Fructose Corn Syrup in soda. Drink a Coke...gotta pee like crazy, but not a lot. Sodas with real corn sugar...much happier.

It very may well be dietary. I believe the overly processed food and chemicals we eat as part of a normal diet today are killing us...slowly.

But I will still have a coke and some Ho Ho's every once in a while!

If the frequent urge to urinate is not the result of always being thirsty, then I would not suspect diabetes. An enlarged prostate on the other hand can increase the urge to pee. I am guessing you are not at an age yet where that would be the concern.

Well, today, my symptoms have flared back up after a few days of kinda being normal. I'm having the frequent urge to go but with actual normal amounts now and the urine is clear. Thing is, I'm not even drinking very much either.

I don't get why the sudden flare up? I haven't had the frequent strong urge to go for normal amounts. Still unlikely it's diabetes though, if I had to guess.

And now it's seemingly died back down and now I can barely urinate anything. This is so weird. I see a basic primary doctor tomorrow but I will likely be sent to see a urologist. Hopefully this upcoming week, I can have all this put behind me.
