Well, after playing Final Fantasy XIII my expectations are *almost* at an all time low.

I can only remember them being lower with Final Fantasy X-2. Which puts my expectations on Final Fantasy XIII-2 at the lowest point of all time for me for main line Final Fantasy games. X-2 came off a great game and was still awful. (In my opinion, at least) XIII-2 is coming off an outright mess of a game that somehow took 5 years to make.

5 years, and FF XIII was far from up to standard. A movie was what it felt like, a movie where I had to press a button to proceed to the next scene.

That I have no idea what this has to do with Final Fantasy XIII beyond the name only benefits it. The combat looks so much better than the crap they gave us in XIII. Granted it isn't mainline Final Fantasy style, but they've made clear they don't care if we like that or not, we're not getting it back, so I look forward.

Graphics, of course, look great.

Hopefully the story will be better than XIII as well. Not like that is difficult.

Yeah, this doesn't have anything to do with FFXIII at all outside of the name, so I really don't understand why they even bothered. They probably feel they need a FF title attached to it to make it sell.

I'm not even interested in FFXIII-2. Spin offs for FF games haven't really been a good thing.

Sadly that's the point. If you take off the rose colored glasses and you removed the names (both FF and SE), FF13 was just a mediocre RPG with amazing graphics. Graphics and storyline don't make an excellent game, the actual gameplay does.

So very true. Normally storyline is something to be counted on, but that was weak as well.

Weak storyline, weak gameplay, great graphics = Lucky to get one playthrough.

But the Final Fantasy name led some to think it was great just because it was Final Fantasy. Some, even after, were willing to take the bad and call it "growth" or whatever and say it is a difficult but good thing.

Gotta say, if FF XIII is the way of future Final Fantasy titles, I don't think we'll have too many more.

I like my final fantasy to be nice and turn based.. FF 13 was shittastic I will not even consider this

Trailer does look amazing. I'm a WoW guy and haven't played any of the FF series. Perhaps I'll give it a spin...

The trailer looks extremely amazing!!! Reminds me of Kingdom Hearts which is great because it seems the FF series is finally taking a formula that worked extremely well and reusing it, instead of their usual lets just make this game different no matter how well or bad the last mechanics of the previous game worked.

And I for one LOVED FFXIII, I thought the story was great, and the mechanics were interesting, if a bit different. Don't know why there's so much hate for it.

For some reason I liked XIII, and XII but XI sucked, this looks amazing though it reminds me of kingdom hearts with the battle sequences. The cut scenes looked amazing and even better than XIII.

I don't know this might persuade me to get a ps3 again.

RPGs are about exploring. Not being guided along a line/path. That was the major flaw of the game. Only 1 side-quest which was stupid monster hunter quests which was just a rehash from FFXII.

This sums up my thoughts quite well. Are you sure you're not in my head? :D

The gameplay does look more fun than in XIII, but I'd have to get to play this to really be sure. Of course, "more fun than XIII" doesn't say much. I was hoping they'd go back to the turn based fighting, but guess that's a thing of the past. Time to blow the dust off the PSX era FF games (and FFX too, but fuck the rest of the PS2 era games).

It really seems absurd to slap the FFXIII name on this game though. Sure, I'd be fine with them calling it Final Fantasy <insert another number here> but just putting the XIII part in it will just give the stigma of XIII to people approaching this game, and that is bad. Or good if you're one of the few who liked the game. :D That's what it feels to me, anyway.

Really, I only have mixed feelings about this. I'm somewhat sure I won't get the same kicks out of this one as the older ones, but I'd totally love to be proved wrong. Only time will tell, I guess. Let's hope the best.

Also, the opening scene in the car was some damn impressive CGI. :)

True, and I saw this one as taking adventures and exploring through the characters, not so much the environment. I didn't miss towns at all, and I loved FFX as well and I'd consider that one to be a bit linear as well, so I guess o like the linear aspects of it. I agree though the one side quest was a disappointment.

FFX was a bit linear, but FAR less than XIII. There were extra places to explore after you finally reached Zanarkand and got the airship. Three extra summons to locate.

The summoning system I also did not like. Outside of forced use, I might have summoned twice.

Also in FFX you got the airship and could return to previous places in order to complete extra things. There was also blitzball as a mini game, and the recruiting and strategizing for that. You also had reason to use each and every character given in the turn based setting. Each had different abilities and handled certain monsters better.

In XIII, I found one team blew all other configurations away. In this game, you could NOT use any configuration you wanted and guarantee success. Using Snow, Fang and Sazh, for example, would likely get you pummeled by a boss. Granted that was more or less a guarantee when the game threw you in with bad paradigm setups, but still. In my experience: Lightning, Fang, Hope was excellent, the only potential substitute being Vanille for Hope on occasion. Honestly, this configuration outdid any other I tried, and that shouldn't happen.

True, they could move into different roles on the Crystarium, but that was utterly useless. They sucked at any role outside their initial three.

FFX was linear to a point, and then you got a whole world to explore full of minigames and extras. XIII never hits that point once. The ONLY sidequest is a hunting rehash from XII that was so utterly dull I never finished. It was beyond repetitive. Get quest, run as fast as possible to mark, kill mark with just as little effort as any other, collect reward, rinse, repeat.

One mini game was more than a disappointment to me.

I could see exploring through each characters, IF the story had been better.

And the ending was utter crap. They didn't even bother to tie up certain lose ends. Like, someone's father, for example. They typically do that.

And don't use Final Fantasy VII. Not the same. The part after the credits more or less summed up what happened, if you took two seconds to think about it.

So yeah, X was linear, but comparing X to XIII is really a mistake.

Anyway, I do wish they hadn't attached XIII to the name of this. The negative stigma is going to be far greater than the positive. Only those who bother to check it out will find that it appears unrealted to XIII.

Not to mention that the amount of CP required to get even a single novice-level skill (Fire, anyone?) was just ridiculous. You could easily get two-three more advanced skills/stat increases with the same amount on your main roles. That's what makes the extra roles in the crystarium a complete failure. Maybe halve the needed CP to get those skills and it could've made some sense.
