New Jersey grants Civil Unions but not marriage to Gay Couples

I live in western New Jersey, and am impressed that the legislature actually did something positive for the people of our great state.

I DO agree with Chris0626: matrimony is biblical in nature, marriage is secular.

Call the union whatever; everyone who is married in a church still has to secure a marriage license before receiving the sacrament of Holy Matrimony.

If my boyfriend asks me to marry him, I will most likely say yes; if he asks if I would like to live a civil union with him, I will probably say no. ;)

It really is about semantics, isn't it?

as wonderful as it is to see another state move foward I still believe it is sad that as of right now America is still behind on the equal rights...Canada, Spain, the Netherlands, and Belgium are all way ahead in giving equal rights to all couples.... and the UK and South Africa are ahead in granting civil unions for everyone....

America has its great moments but in this case i still see it as a backwards nation still dictated on the whims of an outdated belief system....

I left because I couldn't deal with all the moral majority crap....

But I think all the lawmakers in your country ought to have stiff letters written asking why America is still behind on the equal treatment of its citizens....

Just the thoughts of a disgruntled ex pat.
