I don't know if this new 2009 study has been posted here before, but it puts oral and insertive anal position at a much higher possibility of hiv infection than I have ever heard before. (see link below)

"The investigators also estimated that receptive anal intercourse was the main (69%) mode of HIV transmission.
However, they attributed 28% of infections to insertive anal sex and 3% to oral sex."

I'm not trying to scare monger, but I would like some input on it. Any thoughts??

Yes, life is NOT safe.

Sorry, I'm just getting tired over all those studies that probably want to tell me something, but at the end are just a waste of money. I mean what difference does it make if the change is 20%, 10%, 1% or 0.0001%? If you are lucky you win.. if not, you'll loose. If you want to be safe stay away from ANYTHING.. and even then there is a slight chance you might die one day.

I think I'll take up smoking again.......lol......no, just joking, but I get your point.

One has to role the dice if they want to live any type of life.

i scoured the net a bit ago to find confirmed cases of oral sex HIV transmission and it's really hard to isolate cause people don't just have just oral sex. So now that I was given a number (3%) IMO I think that's high considering I couldn't find 1 case on the net. 3% would represent thousands, yet it doesn't say much of anything on the net.

It does happen though, you can read Richard's true story of oral hiv infection at Avert, Hiv education site.

Respondents in surveys/studies don't always tell the truth. I take this information with just a little skepticism.

Keep in mind that for straights there is also a 2% (iirc) chance to cause a pregnancy despite a condomn.
you get the picture ;)

I was just thinking that as well. like is said very few people are oral sex only, so saying you've had safe anal sex every time doesn't rule out that anal sex wasn't the way you contracted hiv.

I'm a bit skeptical about part of Richard's story. He says his consultant claimed that he may have contracted HIV because his partner had herpes and may have been shedding the herpes virus, allowing the HIV to infect Richard. Since HIV is transmitted through the blood and other body fluids, and herpes is transmitted through the skin, this does not seem like a scientifically sound explanation. Is there a doctor in the house who can confirm whether my skepticism is well founded?
