New Windows Won't Display on Certain Websites

I'm having a problem with getting new windows to display on certain web sites. For instance, if I click on a hint in ancestry.com for a Census record, for instance, nothing but a blank page appears. It appears that the messenger function in Facebook is completely disabled. On other sites, such as for my local newspaper or other source in which dragging the cursor (but not clicking) is supposed to bring up a new display, it doesn't change immediately, but delays for several seconds up still a minute. And there have been a few times that my computer just completely shuts off without warning (usually when I'm doing a lot of things all at once).

I did follow a suggestion, and I cleared my browser history, but that didn't fix the problem. I'm wondering if this is being caused by a setting being changed somewhere, or could my security program be blocking some of these displays.

I don't have Windows 11. But in Windows 10, in your browser do you have a Ad Blocker activated? Also check in your browser settings, if you click on a link do you have it set to open in a new window, or a new tab? Try switching from one setting to the other to see if that helps. Have you tried a different browser?

Last year, my main browser (Firefox) got an update which did a lot of the types of issues you described. But I could use my Chrome broswer and the website would work just fine. I had tried several work arounds and not much helped. Finally after a month or two, Firefox sent out an update that fixed the problem.

When I first posted this, it was my hope that someone would be able to point to a setting somewhere in one of the gazillion hidden menus that you don't know are there, let alone being able to find it, change it, and magically all my issues would disappear. Prince Cory's advice was along those lines, but I could come up with nothing.

Finally I called up Apple last week, and they said it was probably due to an old operating system, and they wanted me to update. In the meantime, they thought a security system sold to me at Best Buy when I got the computer might be part of the problem, and they tried to get me to uninstall it. But the damn thing was like a vampire, I couldn't kill it no matter what I did.

So I spent three days on various phone calls to Apple support. I tried to download the new system they wanted me to have, but it kept failing. Finally on the third day it downloaded, but the installation failed. I gave up and said I'd get back to it after lunch. Again, no go. In the meantime I checked my emails and such, and I decided to shut down the laptop. That's when it asked me if I wanted to install the new operating system. I said what the hell, and clicked on it, and then took a nap.

I was horrified when I woke up. The screen was completely black except for the Apple logo, and a progress bar moving super slow, and the computer was very hot to the touch. Uh-oh, I bet my computer's friend, and I lost everything! Anyway I went ahead and ate dinner. When I came back, it turned out the installation was complete, and the Catalina Island pic had been replaced by the orange Ventura operating system. I had stored everything in the cloud, and spot checking, I found that my porn pics were there, my text files were there, my login and password info to sites like Just Us Boys was there, so it looked like everything is working. I checked ancestry.com, and the windows were the census copies and photos, etc., were; worked fine. I suppose at some point it may become apparent that some things may be missing, but at this point it looks like all has been corrected and saved. Sometimes there's just no easy fix, and you have to bite the bullet.

asking the question with as much info as possible . The OS is rather crucial in this instance. You had an out of date Mac that no doubt had old certificates this it would not show certain web sites. you upgraded and had issues. Apple are " odd" and don't store certain types of music in one area as a whole , i assume the same with vids and pics etc .
