New York Mets 2009

The Reyes thing is a bit complicated. Apparently Jose did not want to have the surgery and decided to delay it until he was sure it did not heal on its own through rehab. What he had was partial ham sting tear which normally will heal without surgery. What now has to be repaired is the Ham string tendon which is something we don’t even need; in fact it is often used for Tommy John’s replacement surgery. What happened was he began to have irritation and then it snapped, he now has scare tissue which will have to be cleaned out. If that is all that will be needed he should be fine and ready for spring training. BUT, if it is later revealed that more is needed he could face about six months before he s completely healed. So best case scenario is 6-8 weeks and worst case could be as much as six months. It is looking like he will be fine after the surgery and good to go by spring.

AS for David Wright’s shirt, hideous describes it perfectly; I am surprised that the normally well dressed Wright looked in the mirror and said yeah, I look good. Then he decided to finish off the ensemble with a loud yellow watch band on his wrist to compliment the look he had crated that day. Poor baby, I am going to have to dress him every day fro now on. I mean it’s a tough job but obviously someone has to do it. ;)

See what happens when there is no game to write about, I get all goofy. :D
Hopefully Jose will heal quick enough and be ready for spring training like the more optimistic projections.I feel bad for him...he clearly loves to play and the thoughts by some he was exagerrating it and not doing all he could to get back seems very unfair.Though he does sometimes go through times where he doesn't use his head and focus, and does not take full advantage of his natural gifts. He can be maddening and frustrating but when he's on,nobody is more exciting to watch!

Oh sonny, you're especially adorable when get all goofy!:DI know if it was all left to you our boy David would ALWAYS be in good hands,so to speak!;)

So, we're down to the final 3 games of this, Oh so forgettable season. The Mets have quit, Jerry Manual needs to go. I know nobody could have done a whole lot better with all the injuries and such, but it IS his job to have whomever is playing ready to play. I haven't seen that happen very much in the second half. Way too many mental mistakes for professional ballplayers. Even KRod blowing the game in the ninth the other day, what a disaster. They should donate their last pay checks to charity, they certainly didn't earn it. I'm venting a little, but their lack of effort day in and day out was awful. A final home sweep would be a nice way to go off into winter golf land.

So at least yesterday’s game was fun to watch.
John Maine was excellent, soooo good to see Johnny pitching well again. Seven innings and seven strikeouts,
his fastball had more on it than I have seen in a while. giving me hope for him in 2010.
Remember, the Mets could non tender him and let him go in 2010.
David Wright (did you see him pat himself on the back after the game) had another excellent day.
Jeff Francoeur continues to get it done (Ryan Church who?) and the Irish hammer Murphy coming thru big time in a pitch hit homer, his 12th which makes him the teams home run leader. Even Nick Evans, who?, Yeah Evans who has been all but forgotten by Manual came through with a solid triple, I was grinning ear to ear on that one, atta boy Nick. I will have more to write about Nick next week, he is moving in a new direction I wanna tell you guys about.
NO Errors, solid defense, how bout that. Like I said a lot of fun to watch. I was also grateful to SNY director Bill Webb for all those shots in the dugout of the boys having so much fun. The season is almost over, they need to have a little fun after such a disastrous year, soon they will pack their bags head on home for some R&R before starting their pre season workouts. They seem to be in a better place emotionally yesterday then they have been over the last month and I loved seeing that.

This is it! The last game o the season for the Mets.
Party at my house, lots of beer, lots of food, lots of tears, lots of cheers.
I am always sad when this time a year comes but this year it is a relief in a way. Our guys have had a rough year, good to seeing them play better theses last few days, I want them to go out feeling good about themselves and look forward to 2010.

Another win yesterday and another good pitching performance from Misch, to bad about the rain cause I wanted to se how deep he could go. Then Shawn Green (OMG what are we gonna do with him) tried again to fuck it all up, I am trying to figure out that new submarine motion he is using now, he doesn’t seem to have command. The idea is for him to take some strain off his elbow and allow him pitch more often and be more effective. Keep working in it Shawn it needs work.

This won’t be the end of Mets talk for the year, Saucy and I have decided to start two new threads soon. He will have his annual Hot Stove thread and I am going to start a NY Mets 2009-10 winter report to keep any of you who are interested in what the Mets are up to all winter. Plus of course don’t forget to visit The Official 2009 MLB Thread during the 2009 post season.

I encourage all of you to visit all of theses threads often, contribute, share your thoughts and join the fun.

What a wonderful way to end a miserable season.
Another complete game shutout, this time from Figueroa. Thole catching his second shutout, Pagan going 4-4.
The last game of the season over the last two years have been very sad days for the Mets, but in spite of a loosing season the Mets went out with their heads up high and hope for 2010. I t was so heartwarming to see the guys feeling a little better about themselves after what they have been through this year. Funny how such a miserable year could end on such a happy and positive note.

We had quite a gang at my house and we had a blast, I wore the hat D Wright signed for me and choked up a bit when he was intentionally walked for his last at bat and again when the game was over. I loved the goodbyes from SNYs Gary, Keith, Ron and Kevin, who are without a doubt the best in the business. I have said it many times before those guys just make the game more fun and interesting. No one does it like they do. Cohen’s tribute to Burkhard was heart felt and appreciated so much by Kevin. At least three of em will be back next year, Hernandez is still negotiating and not sure of returning. My hope is he will.

The fans gave the team a standing ovation as they walked off the field and the boys waved back, tossing bats and hats to the crowd.

So that’s it, my final post for NY Mets 2009, I wanna thank all of those who contributed to this post, guys like syam, NY Dan and many others, don't wanna list you all but thanks to all who posted and to those who did not I hope you enjoyed reading it. Special thanks to my boy Saucy who supported this thread all season.
I will be back with NY Mets 2010 in the spring and will soon start up a NY Mets 2009-10 winter report I hope you will all read and contribute.

I will finish this thread with a couple of my favorite pictures of my boy D Wright. .

Thanks sonny for a great thread...this was a rough season of course and with all the sloppy lay and injuries the excitement of this season wore down real quick. But you always had something perceptive, interesting and entertaining to say here and the picture posts were terrific....these last ones of our David are some really hot ones!(!)

It comes from the heart sonny and you've got a ton of heart....really could feel the emotion coming out of you describing your reactions to the last games of the season.I was at the Las Vegas meet so I couldn't see them play this weekend, but like you said they went out with their heads held high.Showed some pride and I felt so good for Misch and Figueroa especially going out there and giving tremendous efforts.I still kept up with the guys, checking the updates. The more depth they can give us,the better situation we'll be in depth wise as we improve the roster in the offseason.

Pagan,Thole,Francouer,Tatis,Murphy,Castillo really played well to wind up the season and David, while too streaky showed grit and perserverance as he tried to shake off the psychological effects of his beaning. He'll be working extra hard we all know to return to form next season.I hope the guys in the booth all remain, they were tough but fair and made for very compelling, very entertaining viewing. With a lot of question marks remaining(Carlos Delgado,Jose Reyes,John Maine,Mike Pelfrey, even to an extent Carlos Beltran)this will be an eventful, very interesting winter for our Mets.

Again, thanks sonny....we all know this is a labor of love for you living and breathing baseball, especially our beloved Mets.Going to start posting immediately in your winter forum. Thanks to everyone who contributed and showed off their passion for Mets baseball...as sonny mentioned syam,Dan,can't forget chance ...it's been a blast and can't wait to see you all in sonny's winter Mets forum!:D
