I had a biopsy of my prostate last week and was expecting to joyfully report all was well. Instead I just learned that I have prostate cancer and my partner and I are meeting with the doctor tomorrow to discuss treatment. I think it's going to be surgery. There is no family history so it is a surprise and it comes in the midst of planning our daughter's wedding.

I'll fill you in on how things go tomorrow. I'm grateful that I'm able to send this. Thanks for reading.

I'm very sorry to hear that. Prostate problems are not fun at all. I sorta know how you feel and I hope things turn out for the best for you and your partner and family.

I'm sure you and the partner have done the research and talked to the DR's

and people that have been there and done that...So, no advice from here

just some positive thoughts headed your way.....(*8*)

My partner was diagnosed in Mar and had radical surgery in April...He had a 10% infection rate...Be sure to ask lots of questions and research all the options on your own...Each of the procedures he/she will discuss with you have side-effects and you should prepare yourself for that..And if you decide surgery is your best option then visit a support group in your area so you can learn all about what happens after the surgery...You will be in for some surprises that you dont even think about!

Thanks so much, guys. It means a lot as I head to the doctor's office tomorrow. I'm staying positive and in the moment, at least for now.

I'll keep you in my prayers soreknees.

^Thank you. I appreciate it.

And of course, you know to get a second opinion.

Let us know how things go.

If it were me and I was less than 75, I'd chose surgery over radiation therapy as long as they were relatively sure the disease was contained within the prostate. It's all about the "Gleason's Score"from the biopsy and the PSA. Google "Partin's tables" read about them and go to the visit prepared to ask a lot of questions! Truth is there is no conclusive evidence that surgery is better than radiation in Stage T1c disease (which is the majority of disease found when a PSA is elevated on routine screening.) But, I would take surgery IMHO. Good luck, blessings, and have faith you will be fine.

Very sorry to hear this. I wish you the best possible outcome.

Thanks, again. I'm a quick study and have been reading like mad. My general thought about cancer is to be aggressive and that is what I imagine myself doing. Only my partner, one of my sisters and a pen pal knew about the biopsy. Oh, and the entire JUB community. I have to digest tomorrow's information, but I would hate for this to over shadow my daughter's wedding. I'm assuming I am going to be ok and she is going to be scared and sad. More to think about. Thanks to all of you. XO

Best thoughts to you. Staying positive is one of the most important parts of any treatment. We are all thinking of you.

Hope things go well for you. I went through a similar situation but the biopsy came back neg. It was a hell like no other, but reading up on prostate cancer now without that dagger over my head, it is a "good" cancer to have (treatability wise). Also, something very important I read was that most with PC don't die from prostate cancer but with prostate cancer at a normal (old) age.

I'm glad you had good news, bented. I really thought that that was going to be the case with me. I'll be having surgery to have my prostate removed the middle of next month. I met with my urologist today and I'll be meeting with the surgeon next week. I hate the idea of surgery, but I'm not comfortable with the radiation option.

Thanks, again guys. I'll keep you posted.

Wish your results could have been different but think you are making

the logical choice. Obviously that is something you, your partner and

the medical have to decide. Will keep the positive imagary here for you.

Sidenote......happy wedding planning.

Lefty, I am grateful for your kind words. And thanks for the mention of the wedding. I'm keeping quiet about the cancer until after the wedding. I'd like her not to have to worry about me any longer than she has to.

:( I'm sorry to hear that. So much attention is brought to breast cancer, that prostate cancer is often overlooked. More guys should get checked, as it can happen to, as you said, guys without a family history of it. I wish you all the best with whatever treatment you choose, and hope all goes well! (*8*)

I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. I hope all goes well with your surgery. I hope you will have a speedy recovery!

Also, I wish your daughter best wishes on her wedding day!
