Outside of GW shaking his little dick. Why would we want to invade them? What do they have that anyone wants (besides slave labor)? It's a piss poor nation. Does Japan still want them? I suppose I need to read up on them...
Do they have any natural resources (besides slave labor)? They can be nuisance, but are really that big of a nuisance?

I think it's their psychotic meglamaniac leader that's dangerous, not the people. I think he should be disposed (since he's ruling by non-democratic 'principles') off as soon as possible.

He's stupid, mad, and very dangerous. Don't kid yourself. They may be making fools of themselves by exaggerating their nuclear capability, but they're far from harmless.

N. Korea has skazillions of (conventional) missiles pointed right at good ol' Seoul, which isn't that far away. Not to mention a large battle-ready army. And an attack on S. Korea guarantees war with the US.

If human rights mean anything at all to you, you ought to be aware that North Korea is without question the most wretched country on earth. The population is being held in a condition of slavery. Millions have literally starved to death while all the resources of the government go to their nuclear program and other vanities.

Where does this money come from, you may ask. For one thing, the government engages in international criminal activities like counterfeiting, drugs trade, and possibly export of nuclear know-how. They also get a certain amount of "humanitarian" aid, which almost certainly doesn't go to the people who need it most.

They are a very real danger to their neighbors and the rest of the world. The main reason that the Star Wars anti-missile program is being deployed in Alaska is to counter the N. Korean threat.

The only good news about their latest insane attempt at sabre-rattling is that the Chinese, who have been their main international sponsors, may finally wake up and realize what they've been allowing to go on just over their own border. Of course China is also concerned that the current trickle of refugees will turn into a flood if the regime collapses. So they're playing a double game.

We're so far beyond communism here that I can't even see why you would bring it up. And believe me, this has nothing to do with G. W. Bush. Clinton was just as concerned (although he pursued a different policy) and so will the next president be. I assure you any UK PM of either party will be just as concerned. This problem isn't going away any time soon.

Hitler was firing rockets on England towards the end of the war -- ask your parents. And he was very close to developing a nuclear weapon. Do you think he wouldn't have used it?

A lot of people would say that firing missiles into the Sea of Japan and testing a nuclear device are already enough to show that Kim is losing what little contact with reality he still had.

Just to be clear -- I'm not advocating military action on the part of the US or anybody else. That would be fatal for S. Korea. So diplomacy is our only choice.

What's not so clear is whether it will work. States as isolated as N. Korea don't play by the same rules as everybody else.

Coming to my point of North Korea,

even though people will obviously be against it because people will die and people dont always belive that helping people is always a good thing to do, plus they dont have anything better than say the goverments wrong, but they need to get rid of this guy, because he is dangerous as hes crazy and also doesnt play by the rules but for a bad reason so he needs to be stopped!

You say Jim getting those weapons is an act of hostility. In reality Jim getting those weapons is actually Jim trying to desperately hang on to power. He isnt going to use them agressively. Just as a deterrant to an invasion

Perhaps the solution is for China to reinforce its borders, then stop feeding N. Korea. From a humanitarian point of view, that would have tragic consequences, politically, China will be see as a pariah for causing more suffering, but in order to stiffen their resolve, China also needs world backing. N. Korea needs sorting out, and the best people to do it would be the south Koreans, although China is wary of the influence American policy holds on its doorstep.

I feel sorry for the people of North Korea. Kim is (and his father was) a bona fide nut case.
Here in the USA, we have had a rash of horrible, senseless mass killings in our schools perpetrated by kids who were insecure or felt threatened by others.
This situation parallels that but on a world wide scale.
I don't beleive Kim is very predictable. He lives in an imaginary world of grandeur and seems to have to prove his stature to the world.
I wish I had some positive suggestions, but all I have are my personal observations.

Do you REALLY think (do your research) that they will destroy the entire Korean Peninsula... just for the hell of it. They know that use of those weapons as a hostile act will result in just that.

They fired those missles and tested the bomb to say to the world "Oi, look, don't fuck with us we have these weapons".

Its not about being an insider, its about reading the information available, looking at their past history and using your thinking ability. Kim is crazy. Kim is backwards. He hates the USA, he especially hates the South... but he is not going to ensure his own destruction just so he can carry out one singular act of aggression on them.
