Over the last 5 years or so I have been losing my eyesight due to a genetic disorder. Over the last few weeks i have lost more and now I am almost unable to read anything. I just cannot see well enough to read anymore. I have tried all the tricks that my computer has to offer but the fact is that I am blind.

I knew it was coming. I have gone to counseling, my spouse has gone with me also because this is happening to us. I also went to a school for the blind where they taught me many things. Acceptance is very difficult and it feels that the stages of grief are stuck on a loop.

I wanted to say thank you to all the wonderful people that I have met here, and wish you all the best. I may lurk around a little but it is almost impossible to read the threads anymore.

Many thanks to you all.

I'm very sorry to hear that. (*8*)

Are there no assistive technology apps which will read text out to you?

I'm sorry to hear this, and I'm sure this is very hard on you. It sounds like you're also in a sense telling us goodbye, in that your blindness will make it nearly impossible to participate in the Just Us Boys forums. I certainly wish you the best, at least the best that can be expected under the circumstance. (*8*)

There are screen reader software apps for phones, laptops etc. Combined with a voice synthesiser, they will read and vocalise anything on the screen, similar to Stephen Hawking's system.

Luckynumbah7 is sight-impaired too. I remember we were discussing watches once and he mentioned having one that read the time out loud. His profile says "inactive" now. I'm not sure if that means he'll be back.

On my tablet I can change the font size setting and then pinch-zoom bigger still. Is that an option for you?

Wishing you all the best!!!

So sorry to hear about this, I hope that there is some technology that can assist you.

Many thanks to you all for your sympathy and well wishes. We are doing research on the new technologies available for the visually impaired. I have made some progress using some already. Thanks again. I will continue trying.

I am sorry that you are having sight problems. I hope that you may find technology to help with your sight. I hope for all the best for you.

I'm not very active on this forum and only from not a very long time.
I feel concerned, because a member of my family is losing his sight also.
I've understood you have met professionals and they try to afford you all the help that medicine and technology can.
I can understand that acceptance is one (hard) thing.
But i've also understood that blindness means a different CULTURE.
Almost all of us ignore this part.
I still ignore the content of this reality.
So i wish you the best : i hope you will find some solutions, but also an opening to a new life with real perspectives !
