Don't you remember those? (We had them since you've joined). They were "reputation" markers--the more people gave you positive feedback, the more yours grew. If people gave you negative feedback, it deducted "points" from your total and yours could shrink.

All that went away when they did away with the "reputation" system.

Oooo yeah! I remember Stevie's really long caterpillar (as the green rep dots were called).

And The Pianist's. And PalePhoenix' (who, I think, was instrumental in getting the rep system dismantled).

I was so proud when my caterpillar got long (sounds kinda like a pubescent event :D ).

nope you can't. the reputation bar was HUGE source for drama here. hardly anybody could ever cope with getting negative rep. and we still have enough drama without it today ;)
 
I remember how a civil war almost broke out when the administration removed the system :lol: But it was causing soooo much drama and problems. People really took personally. Even I was a little miffed if I got a red one for no reason.
 
Finally, somebody's explained what those green caterpillars were. I've seen I think RationalLunacy and other people mentioning them from time to time, and I always wondered WTF??? They were gone (or I didn't notice them) by the time I joined on Christmas 2005.

I was also wondering how these very old threads showed up, because they're no longer on this site, until somebody above mentioned www.archive.org
