Probably for a server or multiple disks for backup

** Or it could just be in reference to your hard disk, or usb flash storage device

do u still have the cd that came with the motherboard? maybe the drivers are on it

Guys, the secret is out! His MSC is malfunctioning, this could be disastrous! It's in reference to your computer's mass storage system controller. Your computer stores mass in the form of matter in order to power it's matter/anti-matter reactor. Be very careful! If your computer is missing is MSC drivers it could throw off the careful balance of matter flow through the primary induction manifold! This could could result in massive thermal energy release (i.e. explosion)! USE CAUTION! Get that Mass Storage Controller driver updated ASAP!

Since you've apparently already attempted a system restore I'll assume that you've backed up anything you don't want to risk losing. Your first attempt at a restore apparently didn't get you where you'd like to be so here's another option you can try. From what I read, the instructions found at this link...

http://support.gateway.com/s/software/MICROSOF/vista/7515418/7515418su522.shtml

...will apparently get you back to where you were when you bought the machine. Pay close attention to the text at the top of the page which reads...

This option restarts the computer to the WinRE environment on the hard drive. From this environment, you can use utilities such as Startup Repair, System Restore, Complete PC Restore, Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool, Registry Editor, or Malicious Removal Tool (MRT).

...which indicates you'd want to choose "Complete PC Restore" from the options presented at restart. Be absolutley certain before you do this that its what you want to do as you may/probably will lose anything thats been added since you bought the computer.

okay if you still have the problem: take a deep breath, right click on it and that choose disable. Than see if your laptap keeps working well it means you can forget about it.

Now here is a serious tip:
if you have a media reader that should be the thing. FInd the chipset drivers and install them.
