While they are different in how they tell their parts of the story, I tend to think of the two films as one very long one. They definitely sit in my Top 20 of all time list, and I never tire of them. I'll put them on in the background when I'm working on the computer and just let them run so I can stop and watch my favorite parts.

Uma is amazing in these films, and I thought she should have been awarded an Oscar nomination for her work, but knew she wouldn't be rewarded due to the genre of the film (and perhaps the attitudes of Hollywood towards Tarantino?). Also, they came out in different years, so that might have hurt her chances of voters looking at the two films collectively.

Just found this on wikipedia.org, lifted from Amazon.com:

"A special NC-17 rated edition of Kill Bill which will include Volume 1 and Volume 2 edited as one film ("Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair") will be released on 4 DVDs on December 25, 2007."

I friggin love those movies. I am a die-hard Quentin Tarrantino fan. And the Kill Bill series consumed my life at one point. I think that the first kill bill is good for it's action and the other is good for the more in-depth story line.

what hooked me was seeing Darryl Hannah as a crazy yet intellegent antagonist. She didnt just play the role of the "bitch" in the movie like normal.

Hannah was incredible, especially considering this is the girl from Splash who cried while eating the lobster and had to have it stuffed with mashed potatoes instead. She was hard-core as Elle. Vivica A. Fox was terrific also--Tarantino just gives his actresses parts that let them go all out. The extremes Lucy Liu goes through in the board room scene are great.

Damn. Now you have me wanting to pull these movies back out and watch them again. LOL I so wish my friends were as ecstatic about these movies as I am so I had someone to re-watch them with who loves them like I do.

Yeah...she was amazing in both movies. I dont know why, but i was kind of laughing when she got her eye snatched out...even though i was thoroughly disgusted at the same time.

And I can quote almost all of the first movie...cus I watched them so much a few months ago.

They say Chicago's a really pretty city. Are you a fan of that film, as well? "Chicago," that is, LoL.

Perhaps we could watch "Chicago" in Chicago, followed by KB1&2, dinner/drinks and a long makeout session -- then do it all over again! LoL

Man, that is a nice plan. :)

Hmmm, I'm actually going to be in Chicago over Labor Day weekend. . .

Out of curiosity, anyone seen "Grindhouse"?

Yup. I had a ball watching Grindhouse. I was dragging a little in Tarantino's tale during the lunch conversation between the girls, but Tracie Thoms (who I loved in RENT and like on Cold Case) and Zoe Bell helped keep my attention until the payoff--the car scene. I almost pissed myself laughing when Bell pops out of the bushes like some chipper little wilderness creature, and again at the very end. I did not see that coming. lol

That movie had me in tears laughing. From beginning to end...and the little fake previews were amazingly hilarious.

And the sight of Kurt Russel getting his ass kicked and getting curb checked was just pure brilliance.

And it makes me wish I had a bunch of useless talents...I only have one...that'll never be any help if the city I live in were to go crazy...haha...

"GET READY TO FLY BITCH!!!"

Yeah? I've actually made plans a few times to go there in the last few years, but every time something has happened to fuck those plans up. The first time, my car (I planned to drive there with my then boyfriend) went to shit the day before we were going to leave. The second time, my dad was hospitalized a few hours before I was about to leave. I really don't think I'm meant to visit Chicago! LoL

Maybe third time's the charm, eh?

Chicago is a great city. It has a definite personality, and some amazing things to see. The Art Museum, Shedd Aquarium, Navy Pier, Sears Tower, boat tour, Halsted (Boy's Town)--okay, now I want to watch Kill Bill again while in Chicago!

LOL Dammit, Soapy, it's 5:00 a.m., and instead of winding down, you're getting me wound up!

Oh yeah, Night, I cried my way through it as well. With so many movies today that suck, it was great seeing one that tried to suck in order to be good, and succeeded.

And, Hey--welcome to the JUB boards, newbie!!!!!!!!!!:wave: (!)

thnx...
and I agree...I havent seen a good movie in a long time. Actually, not since Grindhouse..

But it's weird, it's theatrical turnout wasnt that great from what i've been reading. But...yeah, I found myself just laughing at all of it.

Weirdly, I wanted "Deathproof" to be longer just cus it was funny. I know the blonde girl who was killed first was Uma's stunt double in Kill Bill.

Heh, try NyQuil! Usually works for me.

Meanwhile, I'm definitely gonna have to try and visit Chicago again sometime. I've been annoyed ever since both trip plans were thwarted before, and now I just have a sense of unfinished business with it. I don't think I'll ever be able to die happy or peacefully until I get this one glaring issue out of the way, LoL.

Hallelujah for two weeks vacation at work! I can always use a break. :P

So, lets see... Kill Bill V1... makeout session and dinner... Kill Bill V2, another makeout session and a late night snack... followed by more makeout sessions and hours of cuddling under a huge fluffy comforter on a huge California King mattress. In Chicago. Perhaps we can even visit a taping of "Oprah!" LoL

That's the life, I tells ya!

Dear God, you've hit all my favorites. Big beds, food, movies, making out, Chicago and Oprah--who are you and how do you know these things??

thnx...

Actually, Bud, it was Zoe, our favorite Ships Mast surfer, who was the stunt double for Uma. :)

I used to hit the movies about every weekend, but the last few years there have been more and more movies put out, and less and less enjoyable ones in the mix. My friends and I will go see indies/art house films, but I consider those to be somewhat different because they are very often thought-provoking and discussion-worthy, but not necessarily entertaining escapist viewing. And I need both kinds.

The best movies are made to be seen in the best way--in a darkened theater, a big screen, with some popcorn and soda, and with a few of your best friends so you can leave the theater saying, "Oh my God, that was some wicked shit!," knowing someone will agree with you that, yes, indeed, it was some wicked shit.

I'm very different myself. I mostly stick to independent films. I have a weird sense of humor that most people dont get.

Most people wont find "Grindhouse" funny or interesting...
That's why I love going to film festivals and I like a lot of older movies...but as far as movies nowadays...i'll wait until one of my friends buy it before I watch it.

Unless I hear it's from Quentin Tarrantino...then it's already a must see. I own ALL of his movies.

I also love movies with Divine in it. Female Trouble is one of my favorites...

I love Kill Bill, when my peeps in High School talked about it, I thought it was very entertaining when he showed a bootleg of the movie on his Mac.

The fight scene between the Bride & O-Ren in the back of the House of Blue Leaves was simply STUNNING.

The snow falling silently onto the white powder ground with the only noise being the water fountain filling up & spilling the water........

......then all of a sudden a Flamenco song pops up to prepare us for the kick ass sword fight between the two women????

Brilliant!!!!

Oh my god I can't wait to buy the Whole Bloody Affair!

I love how the film changes so abruptly from over the top violence to this quiet and beautiful confrontation between two warriors. And the moment where O-Ren apologizes for having disrespected Beatrix--wow.

Each part of this film plays like a miniature movie all to itself, and each is more satisfying than many full-length features today.
