One thing MS has that no one can seem to do.

well, to be an English teacher about it all... "no doubt" is a band, not an adverb, so it should have asked you to change it to "You are undoubtedly aware."
I knew that at one time in my life may years ago. I'm impressed!

I think the fact that MS Word can check for passive voice is amazing.

All my professors demand that our papers be all active, and therefore "more lively."

I no longer use MS Word but, as a science writer, the passive voice check always annoyed me greatly. I realize that professors often demand that papers be written in active voice, but the rule for science is just the opposite. It just sounds too arrogant to use the active voice in science writing.

"I discovered that all previous reports of this process were inaccurate."

"It was discovered that all previous reports of this process were inaccurate."

Instead of demanding that you write all papers in active voice, your professors ought to be teaching you how to use the passive voice correctly, and under what circumstances it is actually better than active voice. But that is a subtlety no grammar checker will ever be able to understand.
