Does anyone use Opera? I've been playing around with it again. It is astoundingly fast. I've been doing comparison tests on speedtest.net between Opera, FF and IE. Either Opera is giving bogus results or it simply is considerably and substantially faster. I doubt the result are bogus though because both in just the time it takes to download the test file and the overall "feel" the speed is incredible. Back to back tests have always been consistant.

Opera

Firefox

Amazing. Only on the ping is FF faster. IE is slightly better on the download.

There are some things about Opera though that I don't like. For example the wysiwyg editor as I'm typing this doesn't work. I do not see the bolded headings like above in Opera, I see the tags. That may be a setting though that I'm unaware of. I also don't see the images unless I hit "preview post" whereas FF shows while typing.

Sometimes pages render a little weird if they don't follow standards.

You can't delete typed entries from the url bar or autocompletes as easily as you can with FF; highlight and hit delete, you have clear everything or edit a .dat file with a text editor.

No Private Browsing..yet.

Just wondered if anyone else had any Opera experience.

You don't need private browsing in Opera when you set the preferences correctly.........and it's pretty easy to do.
Opera IS fast. I've been using it from the time you had to pay to get rid of a little, irritating, ad window.
I'm using 10 Beta right now.
Click the little X at the upper right corner, click Empty Trash and cached pages are GONE.
Click TOOLS, Delete Private Data, check ALL the boxes and that's that........everything is GONE.......

Umm .. not sure what is happening here, but your choice of browser should not have any impact on your bandwidth. Browser only do use your OS networking functions and those are the same for any browser. Unless Opera implented it's own protocol, but that would be news to me.

Meh, Opera is a dying browser that few people use.

They can't even get new people to use the browser the right way. They have to sue MS in the EU to try and get them to stop bundeling IE with Windows.

They are probably trying to figure a way to sue Apple for bundling Safari with OS X.

"My guess"....."Dying browser".......
If you aren't using it how do you know ALL about it?....... ](*,)
And it's NOT so much about download speeds......it's about caching and switching between pages.
If you don't THINK it's any good.....don't USE it.

Because no one uses it.

Opera is...what? 1% of the browser market, and no one really mentions it when talking about browsers.

IE, Firefox, Chrome, Safari are the big boys. No matter how advanced Opera may be, they don't seem to know how to market their browser.

Well, the test results look fantastic.

I've used Firefox for years. I remember using Opera at one time for a very short period, but I liked FF better. I don't remember why, now that I think about it. That was a long while ago.

Opera is the default on my Archos 603, and it's never caused me trouble. Having said that I've never used it as my main internet connection.

Opera is pretty strong in the mobile space.

I got the wysiwyg editing to work with Opera. Yea!

I read on the Opera website that for some reason VBulletin has it specifically disabled if you're using Opera. However, there's a setting that tells Opera to identify itself as Firefox or IE to the host. So when I set Opera to identify as Firefox VBulletin thinks I'm not Opera and the wysiwyg editor works as it should.

I have no clue why they would do this but it's awfully "microsoft" of VBulletin don't you think?

no, it's just that the former opera versions were unable to render the WYSIWYG editor.

i just got 10.5 and its so awesome...i still have some getting used to to do but so far i have minor complaints.

I am most impressed with the java script upgrade.

Every time I get an urge to try out Opera it works awesomely for the first week. Then it slows to a horrible crawl. No amount of cache clearing or profile deleting will fix it. This has happened for every major version that I've tried. I gave up after 9.

It sucks ass now. I cant right click save on sites that i used to be able to before with the older version.

The user interface is crappy and looks cheap.

Just went to 10.51 and EVERYTHING works FINE.......

Re: Opera? YES

I've been using 6.05 since it was new, tried a newer version didn't like it so switched back immediately , and been with it ever since

107 images on this page, my choice to see or not them by pressing g, just one of the nice features no other browser gives me

and to have 60 windows open is nice, nothing else even comes close to working right with that many open

and switching to user mode is handy, especially when the color scheme is like jub or worse

the advert. banner box is still there, but edited to a solid gray

opera is still the best choice for downloading

and I still use 1X :-)
