How long should one abstain from oral sex after the wisdom tooth extraction which involved surgical opening of gums and splitting the tooth by the drill?

How long should one wait to have oral sex again?

OUCH  Dry socket warning.

I've been there. All four were impacted and had to be cut out.

You can't use a straw either until those sockets heal some. You may still need to go back and have the clove oil soaked gauze packed in if pain develops. Meaning you prb have a dry socket.

Ask your dentist/oral surgeon how long before you can use a straw and that will tell you without having to ask the other question. ;)

Get well soon.

Double OUCH. I had an appointment with an oral surgeon yesterday about removing my wisdom teeth. My dentist recommended that I get a consult on removing all four. Well, my mind was quickly made up when I seen the velcro straps on the arms of the dental chairs. Not no but HELL no! LOL

The best thing to do is wait until there is no more open wounds (if packed with
gauze) , if they were run of the mill extractions without to many problems
then the safest thing to do is just having to wait until healed over 4-6 weeks.

Definitely wait until the stitches are out. Any oral activity with an open wound puts you at serious risk to catch STIs.

I would wait couple of months. Even after stitches are out, lesions may not be all perfectly healed. It doesn't take a visibly open wound to catch an STD like that. A mild brake in tissue membrane is enough. My post wisdom teeth surgery healing took months and a whole year for the socket to fill up again.

I agree completely. When I had all four of my wisdom teeth extracted, I waited a few months after to have some popcorn. It was the worst decision I could have made. I ended up infecting one of the sites -.- It was not fun having the site cleaned.

Well I had that surgery done at the end of October 2010. I hope I'm safe now... But I had a dry socket.
