And of course this could mean so many things....

But today Farcebook has delivered a whole mess of Reels vids of lovely men playing classics on the organ in churches in Europe.

I am smitten. Bach. The fugue, The toccata. Saint Saens. omg I can almost jizz listening to them. When I was a baby-homo I played the E Power Biggs renditons at full blast to the point my parents couldn't stand it.

A number of years ago we had an unelievable performance in st, Stephen's in Austria and I still listen to the clips from that.

I have just cranked the volumle up to the highest listening to a whole bunch of vids.

Anyone else erect?

I don't think these soar above the clips I am listening to today...but....

Great organ is as universal as Latin, even today.

You are just as able to hear a masterful rendering of Buxtehude in Smallville, USA, as in Vienna.

There is something about the polyphony of the organ, especially in fugues, that seems to occupy more of the brain than any other genre for me. Great symphonic music, rock, and others simply pale by comparison.

And I don't think it is the religious connotation, but I do believe the resonance with the mind and soul have assisted the endurance of Christianity through the social changes since the Middle Ages.

I'm so happy you started this thread. I'm an organist myself, as some people here already know.

All that's been said is true. The intellectual side of it. The transcendent aspect of it, whatever this means. Also the sensual side, the harmonies, the colors, the full dynamic range. The physical feeling of the sound.
And of course the hot young men (mostly gay) who play it ;)

I'm glad HoodedRat mentioned Widor and Vierne. I'll add Franck, my favorite romantic.
And in case you don't know it, listen to some Tournemire:

It goes on. Lots of clips.

There are all these lovely young and older organists with Reels vids in my feed and it all reminds me again of how I used to make my father crazy by playing
organ music at full blast on a Sunday afternoon when all he wanted to do was nap.

I remember the first time sitting in the audience listening to Camille Saint-Saens - Symphony No. 3, Finale and tears streaming down my cheeks.
