Oscars 2008

Re: This Evening's Oscars. The Most Boring Ever ?

One of the few years where I had no interest in any of the films. I did not see any of the ones nominated for anything. Usually I see one or two of the Best Picture films before the awards but this year the only one I had any interest in seeing was Juno and I can wait for it to come out on video to see it.

Did watch the opening and Stewart spent more time laughing at his own jokes then I did. He sucks.

Re: This Evening's Oscars. The Most Boring Ever ?

i didn't bother to tune in this year.

Re: This Evening's Oscars. The Most Boring Ever ?

I didn't bother this year. I heard Cate didn't win so not much interest, though would have liked to see them remember Heath.

Re: This Evening's Oscars. The Most Boring Ever ?

If I don't hear "who are you wearing" again in my lifetime it will be too soon.

Re: This Evening's Oscars. The Most Boring Ever ?

2 hours are enough!
This year the movies were very overearnest, bulky and complex. But I think the Oscars for Daniel Day-Lewis, Javier Bardem and Ratatouille are great.

OSCARS stupid question !!!!

Who are u wearing ?
Who are u wearing ?
Who are u wearing ?

i heard this question every year. I am ambaressed for the fashion industry.
Actually i am ambaressed for the people who ask that question.

Re: OSCARS stupid question !!!!

what people ? the fashion industry people for sure, but not too many other people ....

Re: OSCARS stupid question !!!!

I think it's a legit question. Celebrities don't buy off the rack for these events. They wear ensembles put together for the event--in a lot of cases the designer even makes the dress specifically for the celebrity. People want to know who designed the outfit.

Nothing to be embarrassed about--that's what the red carpet is about.

Re: OSCARS stupid question !!!!

Ah, but Ryan Seacrest asked the wackiest question of all to a pregnant star

"Will you be breast feeding"

Can't recall if it was asked of Jessica Alba or Cate Blanchet

He so crazy

Re: OSCARS stupid question !!!!

I'd love a guy to say, "Well, my cockring came from the adult store down on Melrose. I can't say as I know the manufacturer."

Re: OSCARS stupid question !!!!

What some people don't remember from the days of yester-year is that the question "Who are you wearing?" is a tradition and trademark saying coined by the one and only Joan Rivers. The Red Carpet is just as important to some people as the impending award ceremonies awaiting them inside the building in front of them.

Anyone that follows fashion at all knows that The Red Carpet is one of the major showcases for any designer. It's an honor and a credit to their work if their pieces are going to displayed and admonished at such a distinguished event. These displays can make or break a designers career! As people became more and more interested in what designers were making it onto the stars of The Red Carpet Joan Rivers found the one question that would be vastly regognizable. Obviously it has become a cliche, but really... what isn't cliche these days. Most everyhting has already been done. People are just finding creative ways to bring past ideas back into the for-front.

All the hosts that are trying to fill the shoes of the infallible Rivers know that they can't top her question, so why bother? Like or love it, it's what people watching the entrance of the stars have come to expect.

Re: Oscars Sunday Night

There really weren't that many upsets this year, and a lot of people were predicting upsets.

I don't know... I thought there were quite a few upsets this year (mostly in the tech categories). Sorry for sounding nerdy, most the winners last night didn't win any precursors prior the Oscars.

Some of the "upsets" were...
- Perhaps the biggest one was 'The Golden Compass' winning Best Visual Effects over both 'Pirates' and 'Transformers'.
- 'The Bourne Ultimatum' collecting both sound categories over 'Transformers' and a minor upset, winning Best Film Editing over 'No Country For Old Men'.
- Tilda Swinton has only won BAFTA prior to winning the Oscars last night over Blanchett, Dee and Ryan.
- Sweeney Todd wins 'Art Direction' over heavy favourites 'Atonement' and 'There Will Be Blood', which goes to show one should never underestimate a Tim Burton set.
- A small one, both Marion Cotillard over Julie Christie for Best Actress.
- One last thing, guess that 'iconic' green dress wasn't that iconic after all, losing to 'Elizabeth: The Golden Age'.

Other than that, I actually enjoyed last night's ceremony (I know, in minority there). It did help that I had over 2 hours waiting for my hottie of a man, Jon McLaughlin singing on stage. But yes, after Documentary Feature was announced, it was a little boring.

Re: This Evening's Oscars. The Most Boring Ever ?

The trick was to record them and watch only Jon Stewart and the awards that interest you. We got through the entire program in 2 hours.

As for the red carpet, if you watch you deserve an eternity of boredom.

I did think though, that they were more stylish than other years and that there were a lot of really great performances among the nominees.

Re: This Evening's Oscars. The Most Boring Ever ?

I want an explanation on how the Hell they left Brad Renfro off of the list of those who died last year

Re: OSCARS..........YAAAAAAY Cotillard Won...

I finally watched La Vie En Rose the other night with my roomie and we were both completely blown away!!

Marion did such an incredible job with that role. Totally and absolutely deserved her Oscar. Congrats!!!

Re: OSCARS..........YAAAAAAY Cotillard Won...

I saw La Vie En Rose and Marion deserved her Oscar..She did an excellent job portraying Edith Piaf. For those who haven't seen this movie. Rent it. Great performance.
