The other day (it was Wednesday, at 6.30 pm), a friend of mine asked me the definitive question. It was something called ‘Happy Hour’! for those of us who couldn’t afford to drink at normal times. We had been drinking since about 4:00pm, and this delightful (supposedly) 60 minutes (which was really 120 minutes) had come to a close. Of course, we were having trouble seeing the clock-on-the-wall, let alone the clock on our wrists. So, Alisha put this question before me… and the others at the table. “Why can’t gay men make commitments and stick to them?”
Well, since ‘Happy Hour’ was over, we were trying to navigate through this alcoholic-induced fog in my brain. At this same time, I was now expected to attempt to focus also upon this inane question that surely rocked the foundations of some alternate world. But to concentrate on the question, would tend to negate any kind of navigation. Likewise, focusing on the navigation would leave the question unanswerable. Aye, ther’s the rub! Thank you Mr. Heisenberg. And I’m still waiting for Godot.
