Your comment is really interesting. I too often dreamt I could fly as a child. It was incredible. I even sometimes thought when I was conscious that it might be true. My flying would often start when I was in school or church. I guess I was feeling weighed down at those times.

I remember having dreams about flying. I could feel the sensation of rising higher and higher. I really enjoy them. I am sure people have been having dreams about flight long before the powered flight. I think it is part of being human.

I have recurrent dreams where I watch a plane crash into the sea.It makes me not want to fly!:(

I'd never even considered that others had the flying dreams too! My dreams were scary for months--- and I really dreaded them. Then, one night, it occurred to me (in the dream) that I wasn't going to fall. From then on the dreams were marvelous until they stopped a few months later.

I wonder if these dreams are somehow connected to the onset of puberty?

I haven't ever dreamed I could fly, but I dream I'm falling a lot.. You know? The one where you wake up and jerk into the matress or the wall and are scared?

I know them very well! They're bizarre aren't they? I have them most often if I'm just napping in an easy chair as opposed to being in bed!

I used to dream I could fly and I loved it. It felt so peaceful.
Like JakeBequette, however, more persistently I have the falling dreams. Often i'm semi-conscious during them, and can predict when I'm going to wake up. Only once have I ever died in a dream - it was weird. Everything just paused, like the projector getting jammed in a cinema, and then a new dream started. Sounds barmy I know.

I have dreamed many, many times that I could fly, but I never had wings. I guess the correct term would be to levitate. By holding my arms out and slowly bringing them down to about a 45 degree angle, I would start to soar. Each time, I would "pump" myself up higher and higher. It was a great feeling. I hope I have that dream again tonight.
