Have any of you guys tried phentermine for weight loss? If so, what was your experience (good, bad and ugly). Side effects (specifically, sexual)?

I've never tried it, but as a Pharmacist I never recommend it. As a sympathomimetic, it has too many cardiovascular side-effect risks.

It's an appetite suppressant and also increases metabolism.

It works. For as long as you take it. Then you rebound after you stop taking it.

It's not a replacement for a balanced diet and exercise, though.

I thought phentermine was illegal in the U.S.? Rx only? OTC? Idk. Lol.

Its Rx only, its FDA approved, but professionally I still don't recommend it.

It's Phen-Fen or Fen-Phen (a mix of fenfluramine and phentermine) that was banned in the US for causing pulmonary hypertension and heart damage.

Thanks ajax27, got it now. Is it true that methamphetamine is an Rx med? I was surprised to hear that, but they are finding some psychostimulants helpful in treatment-resistant depression. Methamphetamine certainly wouldn't be my first choice of psychostimulants, however. There is a helluva long list of them before that one even shows up on my radar.

Yes, Methamphetamine is a Rx drug, sold under the brand name Desoxyn. Not many pharmacies carry it. It is labelled for use in narcolepsy and ADHD. Its a class II controlled medication.
However, it is rarely used. Instead mixed-amphetamine salts (such as Adderall) or methylphenidate (Ritalin, Concerta, etc) are much more commonly used for ADHD. They are slightly safer, and slightly less addicting.

Also, did you know that GHB is a Rx drug as well!? Its very highly regulated, and it is also indicated to treat narcolepsy. Only very specialized physicians are allowed to prescribe it; they need a special license.

Right, the mixed-amphet salts are where I would go first. I have seen Concerta (which is one tech. advanced little pill) used to treat tratment resistant depression and work excedingly well in combo, Ritalin having a come down that depressed patients don't like or need.

Amazing about GHB. Such a strange, yet I suppose viable treatment option.

Of course if modern psychiatrists had a broader sense of pharmacology, they might be writing scripts for MDMA, which has worked wonders in healing taproot trauma when used in direct combination with therapy, eliminating the need for longterm use PTSD drugs in many cases.

Yeah, the extended release technology these days is amazing. The field of pharmaceutics has works wonders in that regard.

I've read some of the literature regarding MDMA trials, but overall it is too "messy" a drug to ever get FDA approval. By messy, in the med-chem lingo, I mean the compound interacts and has affinity for way too many different receptors at the same time.

Right, its "squirrely" I like to say. And by that, I mean sort of unpredictable.

So does being fat. Seems kinda silly to say something like that if you have no idea how much the OP weighs... His name is big5000joe after all.

Just stating the obvious.

I agree whole-heartedly; it is ridiculous. However, depending how big the OP is, the more careful he needs to be with using any meds.

It's so stupid; the ones who need/want it the most are the ones that have to be the most careful if they can even take it at all.

I started phentermine saturday 09/05/09 (labor day weekend). Day 1 I took the pill leaving me with a morning and afternoon full of energy and a loss of appetite. Day 2 I had lots of energy and didn't eat my usual meals. Labor day (monday) I had a small appetite. I only has a piece of steak that was the size of my palm 2 bites of macaroni and cheese and 2 bites of collards. Day 4 I took the pill after 10am so I was sort of hungry throughout the day. I haven't weighed myself but I feel like it is working. I will keep you posted.
