Yeah Batman Returns is still my favorite as well. It was dark and twisted instead of just dark like Batman Begins.
I've noticed something about comic book movies lately: if they're overwhelmingly character driven, overlong and rather slow then they're embraced by the critics. I mean that's the case with the Hulk, Superman Returns, and Batman Begins which were three of the most dull, overdramatic comic book movies ever. Little excitment, little wonder, just a whole lot of talking between characters that just aren't as interesting as they should be.
And I hadn't really considered the brown color palette of Batman Begins, though I knew there was something about the film's look that I didn't like either.
But anyway, this new Batman is all about making him dark, which you hear SO much these days. Oh let's make this character dark and brooding. Dark, dark, dark. Pretty soon it's so dark you can't even see what the hell is going on like in the few fight scenes in Batman Begins. At least I think there were fight scenes...
