I just saw a story on the local news about the folks camped out in front
of our Best Buy here in Sarasota.

Actually, it looked like they were having a blast. They had a LONG table set up and were just about to sit down to a turkey dinner with all the trimmings. Too funny. I'd say there were about 100 people there, or so.

Pigster, if you don't mind I'd like to get my hands on one of those Panasonic 'theater in a boxes' with the wireless rear speakers. It's on sale for $350.00, I think, a good $100 less than Sam's Club. Pick one up for me, wouldja ? I'm good for it, I swear.

Yeah, up until today, I thought ^that^ as well.

But, as it turns out, it's become a tradition for some folks. The people I saw being interviewed talked of seeing people they hadn't seen since the year before, and getting together for food and camping and a sort of, um, general 'camaraderie', I suppose...

It seemed kind of fun. (In the warmth of Florida, anyway)

And besides, there's literally thousands of dollars to be saved if you map it out just right and do your homework before hand.

More power to 'em, I say. To each their own.

Thanks Joshua, I wasn't actually questioning his reasoning for camping outside Bestbuy, I was really wondering what was the reason? Are there only-once-in-a-year specials? Is everything 50% off? Is BestBuy closed today? Is there a midnight sale? I thought people would be home having Thanksgiving dinner?

Sorry, I guess I took it as more of an existential question... lol

1) Yes, Best Buy is closed today

2) They open Friday morning at, I think, the ungodly hour of 5 AM

3) No, not everything is 50 % off, but there ARE some incredible deals to be had that only happen tomorrow, or 'Black Friday', as it's come to be known.

4) The stuff that is a REALLY good deal is limited, say 100 units for the thousands of people that want them, hence the lines out front

5) Once the doors open, people have actually been trampled trying to get in, so there will be police at every entrance, trying to keep the peace.

It's insanity, it's unbridled avarice and greed gone wild...

In short, it's America.

Well go piggy. If I hadnt have spent all my money on my Zune, I would have picked up a new computer with printer and stuff, but hey who cares. Besides the computers, Best Buy has nothng I want. I found the most incredibly deals at Aeropostale. So I will be going there to get a $15 hoodie and maybe some pants. (aeropostale is like the cheaper American Eagle outfitters)

I wish Target would put Keenan Dufty's stuff on sale, he makes the most amazing clothes for them, and this one beautiful jacket I am drooling over. But yeah, tomorrow I will be in the Galleria and Best Buy early as well to get a flash drive. I would love to get the new DS gold.

Your going to love this.. one the car radio on the way to thanksgiving dinner they were talking about the dos and don't of getting the best deal for Black friday and they ended the story by stating you can get the same early bird special at most stores on line at same time.
