Watch: PJ Harvey – “The Words That Maketh Murder

All of the news surrounding Ms. Polly Jean Harvey’s ninth studio LP started out rather cryptically but once she finally let the cat out of the bag, the 41-year-old has been quite generous with samples from the disc. She’s given us tastes of six new songs from Let England Shake – one of our most important albums of 2011 – and now we’re being graced with even more of the official music video treatment.

We’ve already seen a clip that featured “The Last Living Rose” but, thanks to TwentyFourBit, you can now feast your eyes on the clip for Shake’s first single, “The Words That Maketh Murder”. Our own Chris Coplan already reported that the song would be available digitally next Monday and physically on February 7th, but the Seamus Murphy-directed clip is something else.

It opens with a shot of our heroine strumming her autoharp in the living room and then interchanges between moving images of dead soldiers, young boys in uniform, and old people ballroom dancing. There are also bees, folks frolicking in the park, and some driving around town.

Check out the video (which is just the second installment of a 12-part video project) below and sit tight for the album’s release, which happens on February 15th via Vagrant Records

"Dry" by PJH is one of my all time favorites, I also can't wait for this new one.

With this CD, and new ones also expected from Fiona Apple, Lauryn Hill, Amy Winehouse, Britney Spears, Adele, Pink, Avril Lavigne, Beyonce, Wanda Jackson, Blondie, Janet Jackson, Madonna, Jill Scott, Evanescence, Melissa Etheridge, Santigold, and Lady GaGa (which apparently will cure cancer, create peace in The Middle east, and give us a safe, clean, renewable source of energy) among others, 2011 will be a massive year for the female voice.

Me too. PJ Harvey doesn't always release the album I want to hear. But she always releases an album that I can't wait to hear.

From what has been released so far, this might be her best album in years. I would love it anyway, but these songs are really exceeding expectations this time around.

Admit it, Stories... era was her sexiest, and she pulled if off brilliantly.

Patti Smith has hailed the new single by PJ Harvey.

Harvey last week released 'The Words That Maketh Murder', the lead track from her upcoming album Let England Shake.

Smith told The Guardian: "[I've been] listening to Polly Harvey's new song - she has this new song, 'The Words That Maketh Murder' - what a great song.

"It just makes me happy to exist. Whenever anyone does something of worth, including myself, it just makes me happy to be alive. So I listened to that song all morning, totally happy."

Smith confirmed plans to finish her own next album next month. It has reportedly been inspired by a visit to Dylan Thomas's home in Laugharne, St Francis of Assisi and Mikhail Bulgakov's The Master and Margarita.

I love Peej! I went off her for a bit, but her new album sounds like it's going to be her best in ages. Can't wait!
